Trademark issues with "World Series of Poker"?

I don't think it hurts their on land operations at all.

Need to get a ballpark reserve for all 5 domains.

Thanks....

very nice, you should get good traffic from search engines, if you optimize it for WSP

Undeveloped Value: $10+
Developed with content: $250+

I honestly do not understand this at all. Please don't take it as criticism, it isn't, I'm just trying to understand some things in regards to future actions I do. First off, "Online World Series Poker" has 21 Google Hits, yet in just 2 hours you got 33 hits despite not being in any search engines. Why would this be worth $10,000 just for the name? Please explain. I don't get it at all. Secondly, if World Series of Poker is trademarked, why would people buy a domain or website that they know is going to result in a good possibility of a lawsuit? I've seen several "trademarked/copyrighted/celebrityname" domains supposedly sold on this forum for good money which makes no sense as they are more then likely to result in a lawsuit that even if someone wins, they lose because of the expense involved. I don't get it. I really would appreciate someone responding directly to what I'm saying instead of deliberately not answering the question or pretending to hide in the black hole.

Peaches, I understand what you're asking, but you would be better off avoiding the pre-emptively snappy dialogue when asking advice here on the forum. I know because i have been guilty on occasion, especially as a noob. it only puts people off. just a polite, if blunt, suggestion that you could stand to ease up a bit.

the thing is that many have different and competing opinions about virtually every aspect of domaining, and you're going to get different answers depending who you talk to. but firstly, I don't see where anyone said these names would pull 10k. The only one to respond yet was Batman who said $10+ undeveloped.

Do the domains have value? well if they are getting traffic after 2 hours and some click-through, then perhaps they have some value. But there is also a very high level of risk with these TM names that any potential value could easily be negated by. Then there is the greater fool theory, whereas even if a domain is worthless you could still potentially sell it at a profit.

personally, although the domains may make some rev. parked as the OP is saying, I would not touch them as I feel the risk level to high, WSOP has in the past been very proactive about protecting its brand.

The part about the trademark/celebrity name etc. is why I question supposed sales here. Obviously if the buyer has that kind of money to spend, then chances are, he'd have researched what exactly he's buying. Why would anyone want to buy a supposed lawsuit waiting to happen is what I'm having trouble understanding and makes me very skeptical about things here. I can't reconcile that if someone is successful enough to have that kind of money in the first place they then would carelessly disregard that they are buying into a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Are you implying that sales are fake on this forum?

There is a lot of valuable discussion on this issue in the 'legal issues' subforum.

I'm not going to fall into any of your traps. Figures you don't address what I said, To me the whole selling on this forum concept is similar to oddsmakers taking bets on Survivor when the participants knew who the finalists were. The whole process of the PM's, sold, now at, etc., is not the kind of process where anyone should take at face value, whether here or on any other place on the internet. I think you can at least agree to that. Based on that flawed concept to begin with, no I don't take everything I read here or any other place place that would use that kind of system, at face value.

Just because you've never sold a domain here before does not mean anyone else hasn't either.

That's not addressing what I said but that's typical. Your also deliberately misconstruing what I said and putting words into my mouth. You attack me for bringing up a valid point. The point is again, the sales system process here relies upon the fact of taking the word of the seller. Most people in real life do not take the word of a stranger without facts/supporting documentation. I'm sure you won't address that either. Of course also, you didn't address the things I posted up about on the first place.

I didn't post here to get in a debate about this forum but to address some questions I had on this post. If you want to address those, fine, otherwise quit making this a personal vendetta. PS For the record I never said that all sales on here were made up. Anyway my post was about asking questions which of course were not answered but instead greeted by attacks.

Well, "WorldSeriesPoker" is taken in almost every extension. I haven't done a whois on all these domains, but I'm quite sure Harrahs ,(WSOP), does not own everyone of those. People do buy / register trademarked domains. Esp. if there is a decent chance that they can prove that they are not directly harming the trademark owner's business. But, unless I'm mistaken many times these things are settled out of court for modest amounts.

Also "World Poker Tour" is very close to infringement as well. But look at the amazing success they have had.

Trademark issues with "World Series of Poker"?

Yes, it a federally protected trademark. You'd be best to proceed with great caution. "World Series Poker" is probably substantially similar.

Hey believe it or not I hope you do OK. But don't you understand that anytime you get involved in legalities its going to cost you a bundle for legal costs even if its settled outside of court. I also can not percieve how on the strength of having nothing submitted to a Google Search engine within 2 hours of your parking appearing, you magically got 33 hits and 4 clicks. Better then the Single Bullet Theory.

Someone is going to type in Online World Series Poker.com 33 times within 2 hours of parking when "Online World Series Poker" has a total of 26 Google hits. Yes the Single Bullet Theory exists in the world today.

Again because the stars are aligned, all of a sudden within 2 hours of him getting paid parking, all over the world there were 33 people suddenly typing in the magic domain word name "OnlineWorldsSeriesPoker.COM" I think the odds of that happening as described literally are worse then the Single Bullet Theory.

Heres your explanation peaches: As soon as the thread was started, it automatically went on the front page of the New Posts section on DNForum. Since DNForum gets thousands of visitors a day, many of those saw the post, and I'm sure a few (including myself) went to the actual site. A couple clicked. Because the thread received fast responses, it stayed on top, and more people visited it.

Simple.

Thank you, RichInCollege. You are my Guru. I mean that in all seriousness. That explanation actually makes total sense to me, but I do think its somewhat flawed based on the time of his thread which started at 2:19AM and in less then an hour at 3:06 he claimed he had the 33 hits. That's less then the magic 2 hours and one could make an educated guess that he didn't just get parking at 1:06 AM. However, that in all sincerity is a great explanation & you'd make a great lawyer or PR man, if you're not one already. Would you mind if I occasionally PM'd you about domain questions as I admire your thinking process. I'm not worthy.
