Opinions on new layout please..

a little too dark for me

also - the home page side menu is inconsistent with the rest of the site

The rest of the site is the old design not sure if thats what you are talking about. This page is going to be throughout the site.

As far as it being dark its nightclub directory and most of the logos are flashy and look much better on a black background as well as staying with a night atmosphere. The buttons I think I'm going to drop them and put text links there but using them as space filler for the time being.

yeah id certainly change the buttons and replace them as text links

maybe even try a dhtml menu or something

I'd use a sans-serif font instead of the the Times New Roman. Studies have indicated that on-screen reading is much easier on the eyes when you use a sans-serif typeface (like Verdana, Arial or Helvetica).

I dunno if you've read it before, but "Designing Web Usability" (I forget who the author is... but the ISBN # is 156205810X) is full of great information on making your site more user/navigation friendly.

Another thing to consider is that people can't easily print out pages that are light text on a dark background... so you may want to provide "printer-friendly" options.

this made me laugh quite a lot for some reason.

I don't have to list authors on my reimbursement request forms, just titles and ISBN numbers, which is why I had that handy.
