The company decided to redirect traffic to the Soros site after it became inundated with hits -- about 100 a second after the debate, John Berryhill, a Philadelphia lawyer for FactCheck.com, said Wednesday.

Since when is American traffic bad? Most people here would give an arm and a leg to have 100 Americans visiting their PPC page each second. Do they want to get Bush out of office so bad, that they would forego all the money they would have made on PPC clicks?

There's making money on PPC clicks, and then there is making money on trash traffic. The advertisers pay for that traffic, and if they are paying too much for too few conversions, then they wonder if they are getting their money's worth. Even with PPC, the point is to deliver value to your customers, the advertisers. There is not an infinite pile of money sitting around somewhere just waiting to be sucked up by clicks.

Traffic was pouring in at DDOS levels, and with the various print media picking this up today, it is going to be at least a couple of days before it tapers off. That kind of traffic could have easily shut down a lot more than just that one domain name. Something had to give.

The Annenberg Center was grateful that it didn't take the hit directly, and today even the Soros servers have been challenged to stand up under the volume.

How do other Americans feel about entities in foreign countries which "express a political point of view" AKA: try to influence the US elections? It looks like a gray area.

I think the Name Admin folks are American; they used to be based a few miles from here in a San Diego apartment building.

Other than that, I think everyone should be able to express a point of view. That's supposed to be what the US is all about.

Except, of course, for those Americans being arrested at Bush's speeches for nothing more than wearing anti-Bush tshirts....

Bush has eliminated quite a few rights that we americans used to have.......I would spend all my ppc earnings to remove him from office.

Get real. What do you think of the Vice President of the United States telling 40 million people to launch a manual denial-of-service attack on websites operated by people in foreign countries? Did someone make him do that?

When someone shoots you in the leg with a gun, it doesn't make your condition any better to learn they were aiming for someone else, and knowing that they had bad aim does not dispose you to think any more kindly of them.

The Truth in Domain Names Act relates to intentional use of domain names known to be attractive to children in a deceptive manner to provide depictions of sexual acts. Now, I have heard that some people understood Mr. Cheney to say "fatchick.com", so maybe there is some relevance there.

The bottom line though, is that this was not an action undertaken to influence an election, so much as it was a quick, and cute, fix to a genuine technical problem caused by Mr. Cheney's error - www.factcheck.com/factcheck.html

On the other hand, though, accidentally launching a DDOS attack is a vast improvement over accidentally invading another country.
