Hi there,

I was just wondering about this:

If you use AdWords you will notice that ads with bids on keywords that are too low will only be displayed on content partners and not on Google search.

It would seem therefore that revenue from Adsense Search is more than the revenue from AdSense embedded in content.

Does this also mean that parking sites get more per click than developed sites?

Let's take a step back with this logic. Step one seems factually correct: if you use Adwords, certain bids will be too low for Google search, but high enough for the content network (i.e. Search garners a higher rate.) One could then infer that PPC in direct Google search is higher than Adsense network PPC, this is also true in aggregate. However, it is important to realize that parking sites are considered part of the Adsense network, rather than Google search, therefore the conclusion is not entirely valid. A more insightful argument might revolve around the fact that parking sites get a higher rev share % with Google, so depending on their split with you (the domain owner), could theoretically be a higher payout than directly with Google, but that would depend on a number of factors and is unlikely.

I believe that parking feeds receive ads with higher bids than content sites. I don't think that you can get a $20 click on a minisite, but on parking you can.

please correct me if I'm wrong, it's just a conclusion based on my own experience

i think parking normally gets higher ppc, but there is a lot more upside with an adsense site imo:

- you can get in the search engines. Even with some basic content you can get some long tail keywords that will get you more traffic than parking alone.

- your site value increases. If I had a basic (but legit) adsense site about product x for the past 3 years - it would have more value to someone else who wanted to build a site because it would probably make it into the rankings much faster than a formerly parked site. That alone could increase the value to an end user significantly (what is the value of already being in the serps vs. having to wait and become trusted).

I did an experiment on this.

I have a domain that was parked but only occasionally received traffic but the click-thru was high with clicks averaging over $7 per.

I developed it into a site with adsense. Original content. But each click garnered less than $1.

But of course traffic potential is higher with a developed site.

The true test will be after the site's natural ranking on serps grows. Then we can compare monthly daily-monthly revenue.

Keep in mind that adsense's content network assigns you a quality score based on a number of factors, including age of the site, so any direct payouts will be a function of that scale.

Is this age of the site or age of the domain. The domain's reg'd 3 years ago and was owned by someone else prior.

This is something new to me. Thanks for the pointer, rfm.

rfm - This is the first time I have heard that the age of a website can determine the rev-share or click value of an AdSense member. Do you have any links that confirm this?
