Has anyone else been receiving mass emails from perfectname/motherboard.com wanting to buy your names?

Yes, supposedly from Richard Jones at perfectname.com.

The people that sold names don't think it is a scam.

Gregr, are you "Richard Jones" or do you really have an employee name Richard Jones that sent out these bulk emails?

I have spent over $500,000 in the last month buying domain names. If you don't want my money, don't reply. If your name(s) do not have type-in traffic, don't reply.

People who don't know may understandably think it is either someone "pretending" to be perfectname.com, or that perfectname.com is just another front for the everydayincome.com appraisal scams that have been going on. As they always find a new angle, I don't think its too off-base to be cautious and ask about it.

Check that your e-mail headers aren't from Russian or the Netherlands, and you can probably lower the "threat" level to Magenta, and give an invitation a second-look.

I am truly offended by Greg's email offers.

I didn't get one!

Some people thought it was a ploy to get people to list their names on Perfectname.com. I'm actually taking that option away. I just want excellent domain names, preferably with high traffic and high Overture bids.

The point is that it's spam. Perhaps the tiny fraction of people that sold names don't think it's spam, but everyone else that got your mass mail does.

I addressed the scam remark, not spam. I know it's spam.

I got two and don't mind getting them at all.

It's good business to get as many prime names as you can.

Well, jeez, why can't everyone just own up to it like that and move on? Half the problem I have with folks sending stuff out is when they get all ruffled over the semantics of how people refer to what's happening. But, just because "scam" and "spam" rhyme, doesn't mean they're synonymous. Looks like the original post's concerns have been addressed. NOT a scam. case closed. My names must suck, I didn't get an e-mail. [ sniff ] :-D

You really can't get mad at someone sending out e-mails saying they're interested in buying things from you...

Er... somehow, that category of UCE fails to offend me in any way, shape, or form... Someone "selling" something to me? Different story entirely.
