Interesting. These names are already in use but what value would names such as inbox.com, mailbox.com or pobox.com be if they had just come on the market with no previous reputation.

They would be $0 too. But since they are a well known term, that changes the whole ball of wax.
in-tray is not frequently used jargon. Therefore it would take a lot of money to brand it. More than its worth.

What do people working in offices in the United States call the receptacle which sits on their desk, used to hold incoming mail and other pending documents?

No, I accept your advice that these domains are worth nothing, although I would love to own pobox.com. My query about the normal word used to describe a desktop mailtray is genuine. What are such things normally called in the US?

Even though it is a plastic tray. They are usually referred to as "inbox" and "outbox".
