According to afternic, poker.net sold for 12.5k last week. Today, poker.org sells for $3,500 more at 16k.

A case seemingly in agreement with the idea that .orgs are more valuable than .nets and second right now only to .com. One could argue that who knows whats what with afternic or that the elimination of the net made the org more valuable but this does seem to echo the idea that .org is a pretty marketable extension in its own right. Must be all the constant advertising, especially coming out of sept 11th.

Hi Americar, not a wonderful member (lol), thats what I was refering to with who knows what is what with afternic but many auctions there, especially ones that involve lots of money seem to be bidded on by recently joined members. I see this on ebay too. It could be that the really big buyers are not speculators but people with a purpose in mind for a name like a site who have no reason to have a membership to afternic or an auctionplace so of course they would be new.

 

Interesting tee, I've been noticing that trend a little myself. Though you never really know until the transfer is complete.

btw do you have a link to the .net auction?

Why does the whois show a 1996 creation date? Shouldn't it show the date of transfer?

That's true. Actually, I think the original registrants creation date stays on when a name is transferred within the registrar. I don't remember how it went when I sold one.

I wish them luck! Its great to see some spending.

And again, .org is looking good.

 

Seems like the 2nd highest bidder is the owner.

I've had names transferred within register.com and the old creation date was wiped, but I'm not sure if its still the same now.

 

I have a name that I bought about 2 months ago and the creation date is still 1999

 

poker is a fantastic term for ppc traffic conversion - but the alexa stats look pretty crappy for both the .net and the .org (and the .info too for that matter).

They could make nice promotion vehicles though. Maybe the .net sale made people think how valuable a term it was so they were more receptive to the .org auction?

Either way, they're likely to be pretty sound investments at that price level for development and then resale after development.
