Whats the deal with that?. I bid on a domain for a certain amount, then they charge me more for taxes?. I could understand it since I'm in canada also, but taxes in US dollars?... Something doesn't seem right. I don't remember seeing anything in their terms about taxes.. Any idea where they show that?.

funny. and they're in canada too. i always thought they provide a service
(drop catching) and as far as i know, there is no tax on services, especially
online.

their greed is out of this world.

I don't see why they wouldn't.

Not sure on the whole "services" tax thing, but if you buy something from out of province (in Canada), you generally pay 7%, don't you?

I have not encountered a domain registar/snap company that require Canada buyers to pay GST/PST.

I went to read its (Pool.com) FAQ and found this..

How much does it cost to buy a domain at Pool.com?

It depends on the type of sale. There is no fee to place a backorder on a deleting domain on Pool.com. You pay only if you win on Pool.com. Your winning bid will be the final price. For domains purchased in the Domain Marketplace, the price paid by the buyer depends on the type of sale (Fixed Price, Auction, Dutch Auction).

Try reviewing your order email. If it is really tax, it will be stated very clearly. Otherwise, contact Pool and ask if they do charge taxes for Canada buyers. Hope this helps. *cheers*

Funny, I just checked something.

I have always been charged tax at pool.
Now I check what I have set as my billing address and whois. Billing is in the US, and whois is in Canada. I should change it so both are US, but that's besides the point.

Since my billing is in the US, I don't think I should have paid tax, yet I did on every order.

Yeah its about 7%. Just seems odd that they would charge that.

I don't see anything wrong with it, all service/good sold in Canada are charged with GST, online or in store. Same thing happens on eBay as well.

Its a fine line though with pool. I mean, registrars don't charge taxes...or they haven't for me yet.

They've charged GST since the very beginning. All registrars are required to do so, if they're in Canada and are selling to Canadians.

Canadians who do a refill on Tucows see the 7% too, for example.

The GST is a wash, though, because you can get back the entire amount as an Input Tax Credit, when your company does its GST return. Only consumers ultimately pay the GST.
