Present and Future value of my portfolio

Dear Afternic members,

I would like some help on coming up with an overall value for my domain portfolio at http://www.domainterritory.com

I have .com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, and .us domains there. I think that my best domains are in the .us extension.

I know that the .us extension may not have much value right now, but it has a lot of potential. If the .us extension does become popular in the next few years, I estimate that my portfolio could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars or even a couple million dollars. That's if the .us extension gets very popular.

Please give me your opinion of Present overall value and future overall value.

I have a tough skin -so if you don't like my domains - it's not going to hurt my feelings

your idea that .us is going to skyrocket in value is a misperception i've seen for years and years. In my opinion it almost certainly wont, i'm sorry to say.

Give me some concrete reasons why you think that .us won't increase in value over time.

Have you seen my other post on dnforum this week. If you haven't it is below and my research shows that more companies are using .us right now than .biz or .info.

Now to me - .de is the model for a very successful country code. If .us can get to the level of .de in the next few years, that would be great - See a copy of my post below that talks about more companies using .us.

More companies are using .us
Run the following searches at http://www.google.com to find out how many companies are using .us.

site:.us inc -cc -ci -co -fed -k12 -lib -pdf -state

site:.us inc -inurl:cc -inurl:ci -inurl:co -inurl:fed -inurl:k12 -inurl:lib -inurldf -inurl:state


I got over 600,000 results on search #1
I got over 800,000 results on search #2

These same search numbers were between 150,000 – 250,000 just a few months ago. This shows that more companies are starting to use the .us domain and they are developing many webpages around the .us domain.

If you run similar searches for .info and .biz at http://www.google.com , you’ll get significantly lower numbers.

It could be that we don’t need the extra search terms to filter out government sites from the .biz and .info searches, so I ran the following searches and still got lower numbers for .biz and .info. So this shows that less companies are actually using .biz and .info – than .us as shown above.

Americans already have a top-level-domain that they are very comfortable with, one that all our companies have been using for years. Its called .com, and i find it unlikely that that will change substantially in the next couple of years.

Maybe more companies are using .us than .info but that doesn't mean much. I would invest your time in finding valuable .coms, thats where the money is.

Perhaps you're right dragon. But you could also be short sighted as well.

I've done a preliminary check of the first five webpages that popup on google.com with the search site:.us inc -inurl:cc -inurl:ci -inurl:co -inurl:fed -inurl:k12 -inurl:lib -inurldf -inurl:state


Most of these .us sites are not redirects to .com. These are totally separate companies than the ones that own the .com version. Additionally, I've found that some of these developed .us sites, don't have a .com counterpart (i.e. the .com is still for sale and undeveloped).

Also check out http://www.animedia.com vs. http://www.animedia.us. This is a case where the .com actually is redirected to the .us. Isn't that special?

Anyway, only time will tell about the value of .us domains. But I think that it has much potential and I hope that my foresight will pay off.

I believe the prospects for .us are very good. Only time will tell but at this moment in time I believe it may even become stronger than. co.uk and even .de in the long term.

If it weren’t for the fact I live in the UK and cannot legally own .us names i’m dam sure I would be investing now… while prices are still low.

The serious developers have the money for the .com that isnt availible.

Frankly, even if all your .us names were .com names instead I still can't see them being worth a couple million dollars. They are OK words, but nothing too innately valuable.
