Click Here to Preview Project "X" sites

I received a few PM's asking if people could "proxy" vote since they would be out of town during the "voting period". What we will do is just start the vote early.

The vote will still end tomorrow April 1, 2003 at 10:59 p.m EST. If you still would like a site to be considered, go to the above link and post your URL with a short description as to what you would like to do with it. I will accept all sites up till 11:00 a.m EST April 1, 2003.

As I said beforre. Make sure you also vote for the "person", not just for the domain. Also for those persons who have their sites listed, just make sure you will be committed to this project. You will be expected to help somone else with another project after your site is completed.

PLEASE READ RULES....THANK YOU!!!

RULES:

1. You can be a platinum, gold and silver if you want to vote however you must have been a member prior to 3/03 to vote.

2. Vote only once. MODS: Please check ip's for multiple account "voters". If you have a site under consideration you can vote.

3. Place your vote by replying to THIS thread only. List the persons DNF name along with the URL address

Example:

"DNFmember's Name - www.example.com"

4. DO NOT "JUNK" UP this thread with flames, or comments in general. If you have comments (not flames) go to the discussion page (see link at top of this page)

5. That's it!!! After you placed your vote you can change the vote up until 10:59 PM EST April 1, 2003. You can cancel your vote too (up until that time) by editing the vote and putting "CANCEL VOTE" in box.

GOOD LUCK!!! Please be advised. We need your help. To make this project a success we will need expertise, money, and commitment. What we don't need is "bickering", "slandering", "non-committal attitude of selected site/owner"

Perhaps a poll with all the names listed would be better?

There are some great names and ideas in the original thread.
Makes for a tough choice.
If the project intales trying to build a profitable business with minimal investment I vote for WebSnooper.com

If you have a ton of money to throw into it I would vote for buy.info
Cheers!

Yes, and maybe I could help those who find typing to be a strenuous activity a "proxy" so they can vote...

People, this whole thing was specifically designed to see what level of real support there is. Of course we'd get all kinds of votes if everything is right up top there. Then when it would come time to do the "dirty work", well.... you get the idea.

This isn't looking good though... we'll see

The vote is in:

dvdrip's site buy.info got the most votes.

I basically need to know who is going to help. If we don't have the support, like I said that is fine. We can do theoretical, what if type stuff. Money is going to be an issue as well.

The floor is open... Please don't worry about whether your comments will be taken "correctly" here. I think it's important to understand what it is we're trying to do, and if I've got it wrong then I want to be the first to know.

So, Izopod... still organizing this thing?

It's looking like it needs more structure, confusion is setting in.
May even be a good idea to set-up a website dedicated to the project, just to keep the information clear and flowing properly.
I'm not participating, but I thought it would be fun to pop back in after April 1st, and see the progress. I'm lost.

Am I missing another thread hop? You really should post a link to related discussion threads when you hop threads (last post of the previous thread maybe). I had to search to find this one, and I'm not sure if discussion is now happening elsewhere.

I think the project itself needs to enhance its idea of organization. If you had a webpage, you could list any related discussion thread links right on the homepage, while showing the framework of what could be discussed.

Here's a creative idea someone developed that seemed to work for a while. It was a monthly artists showcase... the FIRST person submitted a character, and artists competed to "outdraw" everyone else in creating a picture of the character. The WINNER of the "draw off" was allowed to submit their OWN character to be drawn by a number of artists, and *that* winner in term submitted their own, ad infinitum.

They started out with a PROFILE page that showed the character to be drawn. Click to view these pages here:
http://www.figma.com/mas/archive/2_00.htm
http://www.figma.com/mas/archive/3_00.htm

What this project needs is a "PROFILE" page of the WINNER, "BUY.INFO", and a way to start formally agregating ideas around its development (raw ideas, similar strategies, fundamental development directives, etc). The forum discussion is good, but the information will need to be agregated and quantified from time to time as you go. Newcomers and regulars alike will not want to wade through it all just to figure out what's happening every single time they go away for a while.

Again, good idea... but it WILL NOT spring SOLELY from a forum thread unless their are tighter reigns on keeping it organized and flowing effortlessly for participants and contributors.

Best,

Nexus, relax... From the votes I could tell this was going to be one of those "Hey, go ahead and get this thing going... and I'll jump in when I can". I wasn't interested in "one of those projects".

Jumping in now as you have explaining how things could be organized only shows how little you read. We were supposed to vote on a site. Most of the votes came from people who submitted sites. Buy.info won by (1) vote out of (2) votes casted. Some suggested I put the "sites" on one page so all could see. My thought was if I did that, we'd have all kinds of "votes", but no help. I figured if people spent the effort to go to the "Project X" thread to see which person/site was the best, they'd be there to help.

I'm truly convinced why most projects don't get off the ground is that there is more "idea people" then there are "action oriented people" on the net. I guess if you want to succeed, you have to ask yourself, which one am I?? I myself am even contemplating this thought.

Perfectly relaxed, Izopod. You may notice I contribute large chunks of feedback in spurts as time allows. I'm contributing some "structure" ideas here. Don't confuse it with calling you "wrong" or "correcting" you. Take a look again if you have time.

You ask a good question for yourself at the end there.

Good luck.

I'll also comment on this. I believe you may want to re-look at your stance on making it "too easy". IMO, you need a critical mass of participation and opinion. Your MOST valuable participants WILL NOT demonstrate their dedication by reading through an entire thread refreshing their memory while also conducting their own development (making a living). You'll notice a few people withdrew due to the commitment of time. You lower that, and you increase the options for busy people to contribute (valuably). I've run group projects that have benefitted enormously by adding easily understood structures for discussion and interaction.

That may be why you saw my ideas above as possibly "superficial" and not "useful" (we may have a fundamentally different POV on this). If your stewardship of this project is predicated on the idea that all participants should concentrate mostly on processing every nuance of each post in the discussion, and not concentrating on the results of the collaboration... I'm thinking the project may experience an unnecessary loss of "energy". A little "refocusing" will allow hardcore developers to "drop in", think about the discussion at hand, and offer advice. You will ALSO have an even more dedicated core with better organization as well. You're entirely free to ignore these points however.

I'll float away again and check back in a few weeks.

Yours Respectfully,
~ Nexus

Good, I'd hate for you to come on here, and say how things could have been when you were never really involved.

Spare us the "what should have happened".

I've said my peace on what could help. Again, it was never supposed to be "what you're doing wrong". I just want to make that clear.
