Hi folks,

I have just bought www.ChildrenReunited.com . I am going to be looking around for a web designer that can produce me a web site, but not hosting (I don't think - there may be a conflict of interest there ??) for the site. I will be looking for something like the www.friendsreunited.co.uk site in principal, but it must look much better than that, it looks dated now. That is, that people can submit there own data, with my people acting as moderators to the content being added. The site will be a wordwide site, free to use, with later the option to 'purchase' various services for a one time membership fee. Different to the above site, the data people will add will be in the form of boxes, with little room to stray and add things like email or contact telephone numbers. Better still if the the software could prevent information like that being accepted, even better. The data boxes would of course be completed online, ie. name, place of birth, date of birth, etc, etc, etc. The site will be used to bring together parents and children. It won't be school related at all. The site will contain banner advertising from sponsors. Any thoughts folks? Are you that web site designer? This site has got to work worldwide, but in the English language. Obviously a lot more thought to go into it, but that is the basic idea. Technical comments appreciated, positive and negative.

Hey John,

Sounds like you've got a good start with the idea. One comment I'd like to throw out there... If you want a professional site with lots of functionality and custom software, your best bet is to get a designer and a programmer. Find a designer to layout the site for you with everything you want and make it look pretty. Then find a programmer who can write the backend software for you and implement it into the site. Good designers normally don't program and good programmers don't design. Just my two cents worth.

Many thanks for that comment Nitroshock. In fact I didn't know that until the other day. A guy I know from another forum is going to have a look at designing the site for me (subject to price) as he does some very nice work and apparently he knows someon who does the programming side, who is low cost. Thanks again for your feedback.
