The domain in question is "purplemath.com".

The domain name was created on 01 October 1999, and is paid up until 01 October 2016. The British-English spelling, "purplemaths.com" (note the extra "s"), is paid up until 04 October 2016. Currently the plural "maths" name is parked on top of the singular "math" name, and the two would be sold together.

The content of the site using this domain is educational, textual, and somewhat bland in appearance, being aimed more at explaining algebra than at displaying bright colors or otherwise "entertaining" the visitor.

The domain name has a Google Page Rank of 5. The ("new and improved!") Alexa traffic rank of the site is about 24K; the "Quantified" Quantcast rank is about 5550. (Additional traffic and demographic information may be viewed on the Quantcast site.)

I was unable to get the Overture site/service to respond; the site timed out repeatedly, though it responded promptly to pinging. So I have no information on the number of searches for keywords or for the domain name itself.

DNScoop tallies about 24K in-links to the site, and estimates the value of an outbound link at $29/month.

Current overall ad income (AdSense ads, Amazon percentages, and ads contracted by individuals) currently amounts to about $2K per month, but income drops during seasonal breaks in the US academic school schedule (spring break, summer vacation, etc).

I have ordered a paid appraisal from Moniker. The DNScoop free appraisal service returned a value of $66K, while the Nameboy free appraisal service returned a value of $3732. (And yes, I understand that "you get what you pay for": the free-appraisal values should be taken with a pinch of a large scoop of salt.)

While I wait for the Moniker appraisal to be completed, I would welcome your informed suggestions and educated opinions.

Thank you for your time.

Eliz.

Since my previous post, I have received the Moniker appraisal for my domain name. But, unless I'm badly misinterpreting Moniker's report (which is certainly possible), Moniker's appraisal values only the domain's name, exclusive of the content, and only with respect to the "front page" of the site. That is, the appraisal does not include consideration of the site itself or the content that makes the domain desirable in the first place (to anybody other than black-hatters).

Among other red flags, Moniker reports a staggeringly low number of in-links, the listed "total" values don't match the stated max/min "comparables", and the domain names used as comps are only vaguely related to mine. Perhaps Moniker doesn't do so well with niche sites whose names' values are dependent upon their backing content...?

I'm still feeling a bit lost. But I've noticed that the guy who recently offered to buy me out has stated (on his own, very-much related, site) that he's turned down buy-out offers that were at the high end of the appraisals that I've received. And my site has higher rank, etc, etc, than does his. So I guess I'll take that as my guideline. :ok:

Thank you.

Eliz.
