Hiya folks

I'm very new to this game (I'm not IN the game, I just find it fun to look through domains hoping to find one that I could sell for a $5 profit, in my spare time )

I'm just wondering if it is worth registering a long domain that makes perfect sense, and gets over 20,000 searches on overture. It's a three word domain, which really only works with all three words (like rubber ducky isn't the same thing as just rubber, or just ducky). Really the only bad thing about this domain is it's length (over 20 letters, hehe). So I'm just wondering if it's worth registering such domains? I know it's hard to say without knowing the actual domain, so if you wish to help me pm me and I'll tell you what it is (as long as you don't come off as shady to me . I've been lurking around these forums every day for the past few weeks, and have developed my own opinions of some of the more active members here. For example, if doberry PM's me, ...... .)

Yes, it's the .com and actually the .us of the phrase is taken! And it has nothing to do with the U.S.

I dunno, it's just the 1/3 of you giving opinions on another 1/3 of you's domains, while the 3rd 1/3 of you is off registering extremely bizarre names.. I dunno which one of you 3 I would trust on this.

I have considered the 3 worders too. I found some with very hi overture type ins, but i'm not sure people are gonna type 3 words in the browser.

If they are great typeins, its possible you could use them as keyword domains to rank higher in search engines. (some say this is myth... but a lot of google top results are keyword domains...some with hyphens to separate the words)

Yeah, I don't think I've got anything here. I'm finding phrases with 100,000 - 200,000 searches in overture that are still available. Basically, I'm using JUST overture. Finding domains that I normally wouldn't think of registering if I didn't know they got so many searches. I'd love to talk to someone 1 on 1 (pm, or email) and discuss it.. Could any of you recommend a trustworthy member that would register these as I'm telling them to him/her? Preferably someone who wouldn't just laugh in my face too, as I'm sure most of these names are just dumb . I just wanna learn. From what I've read browsing around this forum, most of you folks seem to be very respectful, knowledgeable and professional. I've learned quite a lot just from reading random posts in various sections of this forum.

Why don't you just register the names yourself? What's there to learn from using someone else's credit card?

I think he meant wouldn't register..

Most of 20+ letter domains are not worth reg fee. people may use 3 words just for searching, but not for type-in.

e.g. when looking for "PHP web hosting", people don't type in, but do the search because it returns better result.

by the way, http://PHPwebhosting.com happens to be in biz.

may be PHPwebhosting is not a good example.

try this one, Optimized Network Traffic.com , 21 characters. Not many people will take this long URL for their biz. they will opt for OptimizedNT.com, ONT.com, etc.

and there won't be much type-in traffic.

Yes, sorry, I meant would not. Anyway, I know they wouldn't because the more I look at these names the more I just laugh. What I did (kinda fun) was look around my room and type in 1 short word of something I saw. Type in "pet" and the very top searches for the word are long, three word phrases. It's not like I'm actually looking for long phrases, they're just the ones that get hundreds of thousands of se type-ins per month. No go to your favorite registrar and type in some of those phrases. I was too lazy to do a whois, but it looks like 1 guy registered all of the big number type-ins. There're still 1 or 2 that get over 200,000 searches that are still available. (I know you guys can EASILY figure out one of the domains I'm talking about by the information I just gave you, and I don't mind. If it's your kinda thing, and you really wanna register it, go ahead and put some doggie door affiliates on there ). And I did this with several short words.

The funny thing is, out of all these 200,000 + searched terms, there's this one that only gets a little over 50,000 that I think I'm actually going to register. It's 3 full length words (even at full length they're short words), but the abbreviation is available. And it's a very well known abbreviation (like everyone knows TOS is Terms of Service (just a random one out of my head)). And it's something that I could EASILY find affiliates for, unlike pet doors, . As well, the long version is taken in both singular and plural, and the abbreviated version is taken in plural.. I just broke Outlook though (It's very delicate), so I have to submit this post, so I can reboot, so I can register, so I can tell you what it is. (Though I'm still afraid it's not a very good name).

BTW i also think its terribly easy to remember too, if its the type of site you where seeking, then its hardly likely you'll forget it being so discriptive. IMVHO

hmm.. then maybe I should register these? Cuz if drping's 25 letter, 3 word domain with 0 overture searches was worth registering, maybe a shorter domain that makes more sense, with 200,000 searches is..

The reason I'm being so cheap is because I've got a chunk of money in PayPal that I've decided to just play around with. I also do web design for fun in my spare time, so I want to have enough left over to invest into getting a site for that, so I don't want to just blow it all on worthless domains. Basically as long as I can turn over at least a $2.00 profit on any domain I register, I'm happy, but it would be nice to turn my little chunk into a new car or something
