Saw this posted today.

Interesting. 1,400 domains had never been awarded from the sunrise phase in 2001.

At the time, they had not cleared the challenge process or were subject to litigation.

I am anxious to see this list. This was the first time the sunrise period was used to allocate a gTLD.

I have not seen a list published anywhere.

Are those some of the ones that were not awarded during sunrise?

Wow. Simply WOW.

Yes, reallocation or auctioning could help push to info into wider acceptance, especially if some sort of development criteria were attached.

I think they just waited too long to get them into the market.
Phenominal speculation could have raised the market trend of info ...

Hopefully , better late then never....

Unfortunately my favorite domain was grabbed in the sunrise period with an invalid trademark and the info registry has not replied anytime.

Will check if I find more affected names the next days.

Nice day!

all country names are 'reserved' and can only be used by the countries themselves.
Apparently many countries didnt care so the domains have never been awarded...

Actually there are a few country names in .info that are in private hands :)

You dont mean the 'official' country names right?
I own a few that are not the official ones, but the ones that are alternatively used.

Yes I mean official ones. For example Belgium.info sold at Snap then Sedo a while ago. I own the French & Dutch versions (official languages) ;)

After the deadline had been moved from Decemeber 2009 to April 2010: has any of the domain name been re-allocated yet?

11 years later, and Affilias still can't correct their own incompetence.

Perhaps the employee with the passwords for the domains has left? :)

The .info launch was a bit strange though. There were some domains acquired with blatently bogus trademarks.

A number of those were in fact revoked a few years ago:) They are now part of the reallocation scheme. I wonder if any domains have actually been awarded to new holders.
Some still have an expiry date of 2006.

I think there was a request for proposals from Afilias a while ago (a year or so). That was the last I saw of it but I haven't been paying much attention to .info gTLD. I ran an IP based survey on all .info websites after Afilias came out with a very odd claim about usage (same 'consultancy' crowd who initially provided COinternet with those utterly inaccurate usage figures.) A very high percentage were parked on Godaddy's PPC lander and as to be expected, nowhere near the level of active/unique usage that was claimed. That was obvious just from an IP survey of approximately 7 million .info websites. At the moment, .info has been on a downward trend from its 8M domains high point so Afilias may be more concerned with maintaining registration volume.
