I've been satisified with escrow.com although have only used it for about 4/5 domain sales.

The process always went smoothly and very quickly - but more impressive was waiting just one business day for wired funds after escrow advised that sale was complete.

Have only done one sale through SEDO and it took over a month (some of that due to buyer delay but not all).

Escrow typically took less than two weeks.

However, am always interested in hearing about others experience in dealing with payments, since that seems to be the achilles heel of many transactions

Do NOT rely on escrow.com 100%.
You CAN get screwed if buyer INTEND to do so.
escrow.com has flaw for domain escrow service.

Sedo, Moniker, EscrowDNS do not have escrow.com flaw.

It depends. I prefer Escrow.com . There were times when I paid xxxx range to some strangers via paypal for purchase of domains. So far, no problem. Paypal is good in a way as you can mention about the transaction and if anything goes wrong, you could file complaint.
