Is this for real? How come my registrar claims this fee is not theirs, but "the registry's". ? If that were true, there would be no variance in the fees, no?

Who would pay $200 in redemption, when you can buy a snap or whatever for $75?

This is at NameCheap, btw.

Because if it is a good name, chances are, a company will "snap it" not you.

Correct, anyone can buy a snap, therefore someone might get it instead of you. There are many snap companys.

Namecheap's a reseller for enom. Anyone know how much enom charges for
redemption?

If enom's lower than what you stated, then I'd venture that it's admin fee +
registry fee + registrar fee. Something like that. :-D
