I want to buy a certain domain and this is what the whois shows:

Status: redemptionPeriod
Updated Date: 05-sep-2010
Creation Date: 29-jul-2009
Expiration Date: 29-jul-2010

When will this domain be available for registration?

This is where I'm still confused. If the domain expired July 29th + 30 days RGP (redemption) = puts it somewhere around the end of August and it's still in redemption not in pending delete....

Am I missing something?

IMO you should start counting from the last-updated date.
I assume the name has been in grace period from 29-jul-2010 thru 05-sep-2010, then entered redemption on 05 Sep.

Sometimes other registrar like enom can "extend the redemption period" for another 30 days.
