Hi. I noticed some massive drop catching from the Namewinner stable - dotster/ Namezero/ namesdirect.

They have got scores of names & have them all registered with the following WHOIS info:

Registrant:
RegistrarAds
P.O. Box 821067
Vancouver, WA 98682-0024
US

Registrar: NAMESDIRECT

This is the same address as dotster/ namewinner.

Is namewinner hoarding names to resell ?

Anybody know anything ??

regards,

Arvind Reddy

Maybe "unpaid" catches. They have a few that I have made numerous enquiries on and I have always rec. the same response, that an auction will be held sometime in the "near" future. This was June to Dec. of last year. I've given up. But who knows. Maybe after WLS starts, the auctions will begin!?

The same happened to me ... I think I was the high bidder in NW (lowest posible bid) for a name .... after I saw the same whois info :

Registrant:
RegistrarAds
P.O. Box 821067
Vancouver, WA 98682-0024
US

Registrar: NAMESDIRECT

Do you think it would be a good idea to email namewinner/dotster ??

Yes, Dotster is now bending ICANN rules and getting into domain speculation themselves. I've been watching tiger.net for almost 2 years. The domain was caught by Namewinner but never had any whois info, until a few weeks ago when it showed up under RegistrarAds.

I sent email to namewinner to ask about the name and the answer was
that another company got the name.... RegistrarAds...

I cant even find my bid in my bidding history so I guess not much to
do with it?.... or does the bidding history info disappear after a name
drops ?

I caught the .com version of a name recently (which the .net version was also dropping simultaneously) and when the whois finally got updated after 3 days, the .net version was registered with RegistrarAds. So I emailed them asking if they would sell me that name. That was about 4 days ago.

Today I was checking the whois and the .net had dropped again. So I just hand regged it.

Maybe Namewinner just grabs everything through RegistrarAds and then decide which to keep and which to cancel.

Yes, Dotster is registering hundreds or maybe thousands of domains every day through RegistrarAds, test the traffic, and then delete the ones without traffic and get the full refund from the registry. This is the kind of behavior that can get them discredited by ICANN.

They also seem to be bidding on some domains on Namewinner against their own customers. That's ok with me because they can't get anything half decent nowadays, but it might piss off some of their customers if they become aware of it.

Ok so prob the name they took for themselves will drop as it has no traffic as its a made up name.... I find it bag though... registering names and keeping them when you offer the bidding/registering service for yr clients....

Isn't that making use of their RRP priviledges unfairly? Smart idea though. Zero financial risk to them since unlike the general public, they are not stuck with having to pay for dud names. I think every registrar should try this trick then.

Bring on the WLS!

Here is the answer I got from them.... I was asking them why they register names
for themselves if they have bids from their customers....

Their reply seems to want to give the idea that the name was registered using
registrarads.com info but for another customer???.... not a native english speaker
so what do you think it means?....

Here it is:

This domain was recently registered by RegistrarAds. If you were the
previous owner of this domain, it would have had to expire at your previous
registrar in order for RegistrarAds to grab it.

You can find the new owner's contact information by searching Whois at sites
such as www.whoisd.com and www.betterwhois.com.

If there is no owner contact information displayed, this is because we have
not yet processed payment for the domain from the new owner. Once we have
processed the payment, Whois will be updated with the new owner's contact
information.

If you do not want to wait for the Whois information to update, here is
RegistrarAds contact email address: [email protected] .

Well lets see if the whois in fo changes or its let to drop again as it
wont have traffic..... anyway dont like this at all....

Ok end of story... I told namewinner that I could pay max dotster reg fee as the name is a made up name and has no traffic.... they told me that it is impossible to do that and that if I want to buy the name I should contact registrarads.com....

I did not and the name "redropped" today so I just regged it by hand.

 Welcome to the RegistrarAds drop club, where they will get the name for you first so you can reg by hand later.
