yea its a very popular name as well. I am not sure how the arabic market would like this name since the ex Iraq president has tainted it.

A GOP affiliated group may want it to rave the war, a DNC group may like to use it to highlight the failures of the overthrow of Saddam. It's value will likely only deminish until it is developed into a topical site. His passing will likely truncate any remaining value. Develop or sell soon.

Develop into a Saddam latest news site. Everybody would get their news on what is going on with Saddam from Saddam.com. That would be perfect, I'd even fisit. But you'd have to keep it consistent and update frequently.

Names like this are easily worth 2K. You have a whole world of people who could buy it for any reason. Meaningless stuff like Overture scores, traffic, and whatever else most people base appraisals on gets thrown out the window here. You could easily sell it for multiples of what you paid with just an ounce of effort. I even bid on the auction for 1K or so the other day when I saw it was closing soon, but I am frying a much bigger fish this week...or else I might have battled for it.

Very few names on the Afternic Closing Soon list have many people jumping in out of nowhere to bid. Excellent name.....basically got it for free. It is not relevant whether Saddam goes to prison, dies, or whatever...there is one Saddam.com in the world and you have it. In just a few years you won't be able to get any name that makes any sense for a reasonable price.

Great Name - 50k easy. As the trial winds down you should be able to lease the space to a news organization. As for the future, who knows.

I don't see how it could be worth $50,000 if it just sold for $2,001 on one of the largest public domain name marketplaces. I belive a domain name is worth what someone is willing to pay for the name. Nobody else was willing to pay more than $2,001, so that is the value. Sometimes you get lucky when you are able to confidentially negotiate with a private seller in a private manner, however, when you are bidding on a name in an open forum, and the price is posted on that site's homepage prior to closing, others had the opporunity to bid more but they did not feel it was worth more than $2,001.

If the name sold for $2001 on Afternic last week then it's value on Afternic last week was $2001. Snapnames, with their broader reach to vastly stronger players, would likely have generated 5x's that amount, last week.

Hypothetically, based purely on news relevance, in 1990 Noriega.com would likely have brought 100x what it would have brought in 1991 or anytime since. Granted, Noriega dominated the bad guy news cycle for mere months as opposed to Saddam's decade+ reign. If Saddam's trial runs on for years you're in good shape. Once he is convicted/acquitted and eliminated from the front page Saddam.com will be a quaint site for history buffs. Sell high, sell soon.
