San Luis Potosi, is the capital and most important city in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. It's also the cabecera of the municipio of San Luis Potosi.
San Luis Potosi is located in the west-central part of the state of San Luis Potosi at 22.16°N, 100.98°W. In the census of 2005 the city had a population of 730,950, while the municipality had a population of 840,217. The municipality has an area of 1,443.14 km² (557.2 sq mi). The metropolitan area of Greater San Luis Potosi, which includes the neighboring municipality of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, had a population of 1,085,000. The city, at an elevation of 6,157 feet, is a thousand feet higher than Denver, Colorado

The Mexican state of San Luis Potosi has an area of 62,848 km² (24,266 mi²). It is in the north-central part of the Mexican republic, bordered by the states of Jalisco, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Hidalgo, Veracruz, Tamaulipas, Nuevo León, Coahuila, and Zacatecas.
At the 2005 census the population was 2,410,414. The largest University in the State is the "Universidad Autonoma de San Luis Potosi" (UASLP}.
The native peoples of the state include the Huastecs and Pame people.
In addition to the state capital San Luis Potosi, the state's largest cities include Ciudad Valles, Matehuala, and Rêo Verde
