and .com is related to 'company' and .net to only 'networks' and .org is for non-profit organizations.. hehe.. sureeeeee

I am sure you believe that .mobi is the TLD of the future as well.

.info domains, undeveloped, have little use. As parked entities they have little traffic over their .com counterparts. To drive traffic to an .info domain you need either to fully develop it or to have a really good parking template with intelligently dynamic content.

Doesn't this apply to .net .org etc... as well?

Yes, but even more so with .info names because the extension DENOTES information.

I am not saying generic .info names have no reseller value. I am saying that .info mandates content. And I am saying that, being guilty as charged for not developing my .info names as well :-D

I don't understand. So if someone visits a .com and doesn't find a company there, will that someone be dissapointed?

No, but visiting an empty .info is definitely more disappointing.

Bottom line: Science.info is a great name. Develop it.

TLD of the future.. not quite.. even if it became a big hit for a short time i doubt most people will know what a .mobi domain is..

Its true this is a silly domain name.. but lets get real here, nobody collects .com/.net/.org domains because its a fun and happy thing to do.. everyone does it to make money..

around 10 big companies putting their dollars out there and forcing this shit down our throats... sure its silly and you can sing "down with the man" all day long.

But what happens, if, they actually push this so hard, that we're almost forced to use it.. (kind of like how we're forced to use windows operating systems when we buy a computer at one of the big retail giants)

hmm.. you know, it sometimes makes me wonder, what if they were actually in alliance together, hmmmm..doing this to us..all these big companies not offering us a choice of operating systems when we go buy a new computer... hey, wait a minute here!... hold on just a second!!

heh

$100,000 ? I don't see any .info name to be sold for more than 20k in near future. Well NewYork.info did it, maybe few more will pass 40k, but 100k
is not a price for .info at this point. Most of the premium .info names still can be purchased for low - medium xxxx

lol yeah... i was in a giddy mood
i would say more like 25k

Science.info is UNIQUE AND GREAT NAME. YOU CAN BUY THREE WORDS .COM FOR $xx,xxx. But it's three words! The big company will advertise Science.info and this domain will receive high traffic. I guess for such great .info names traffic is not important. For example, if the big company aquired this name and then developed popular project, Science.info will receive high traffic. I guess premium .info will buy from $50k - $1mln in very near future.
Can you buy such premium .coms for that money? I guess "NO". So what's we can buy now - NICE PREMIUM .INFOs.

Science.info is a nice name, no doubt, but appraising the domain yourself is too much.

Dnmar, I think you are not realistic here. If I have a million dollar budget I would make a move for a .com not .info. Also when you purchased this name on ebay a less than a year ago for 4k it wasn't really a perfect deal, it was a fair deal, but it is like you got a premium domain for free. This was a time when premium .info domains were sold for 1k, for example few us state domains were sold for this price. USstate .info is not less premium than science .info. So for you to say that this name will be sold in near future between 50k and 1mln I think this woun't happen in near future. Buy the way science.com is not developed, it is just rederecting to the scince mag, science.net is parked. Usually very premium names are all developed and used a lot.

I offered about $12,000 on science.info via sedo few months before,
but I didn't get it because the former owner wanted more than 12k :(

it's a very nice .info,
I think it could worth at least $30,000 at this time.

buy.name, I am pretty sure the current wner will sell for 12k

I say $15k-$25k for this name. Theo is on the mark it needs to be developed for it's true value but that doesn't make it a worthless domain as a matter of fact that's what gives it value at all. That it's an easily developed name. There is no guessing what to do with it and it's visibility if branded would do very well in schools, discovery channel, or magazines. It has potential (and I don't use the word lightly as some) that's right there on the surface.

I wouldn't take $12k either...$15k MAYBE...but I would be wanting $20k...or even $30k. This could easily be sold to a high paying end-user such as I have already listed.

100k...no way unless you have some years to wait around (maybe 5-10) and by that time other extensions might be better suited or cheaper to obtain.

Labrocca, where do you get prices like this for .info names? 15k, 20, 25, 30?
Forget about DNjournal.com! These are just few highest sales, this resource doesn't represent the real value. What 30k are you talking about? We had the highest sale for .info only this month which was newyork.info for 44k. The sale for 30k, if it happens for science for 30k, it will be due to luck. For any domain name there is this magic "end user" that will come and pay 100 times more than this domain was purchased for. If this debate is about "end user" price than I agree, probably there is a company in the world that will pay even a million for it.

I also agree with people that say that .info undeveloped costs signigicantly less than developed. The problem is that .info domain names almost don't have any typeins. If you take .net , org, and .com , they all have typeins if it is a generic word.

I am pretty sure dnmar bought this name just recently,
because I have been keeping my eyes on this gem for years,
I lost the chance to buy it at $4,000 few years before because I didn't have enough money at that time though I thought it was definitely a steal.... (actually I had asked the original owner about one year earlier than the original owner sold it for $4k, he said $3k at that time, I didn't have that much money as well).

last few months, I sold a .info for more than $12,000, so I thought that I could be able to buy science.info because it was parked and listed for sale at sedo again.....

unfortunately, the former owner (a german) wasn't interested in my $1X,XXX offer......
so I finally gave up and use that fund to buy ten other .info domains instead.....
recently I checked the whois,
I found the owner has been changed again.....
so I am very sure dnmar was not the person who bought science.info at $4k....

...that's right, here is the germany buyer, I've paid about 4k in an ebay auction last year and I have sold domain few months ago for low xx,xxx figure.
Sorry, but I can't remember your offer about $12,000 on science.info via sedo few months before.

Jens
