Several different registrars in China have contacted our company "Seattle Linux, Inc." to advise there is a company in China attempting to register SeattleLinux.cn, SeattleLinux.asia, ... Obviously we are a Linux related business in Seattle that does not have any sort of business presence anywhere in Asia. Do we have any rites to prevent a company in Asia from acquiring our company name, with asian TLDs?

From what I recall reading somewhere .cn has a bulk reg rate of like 10 cents each. Not sure about bulk rate for .Asia.

With that said, those type of companies often haven't registered anything - they just mail out letters - when one responds / pays, then they register the name.

Bottom line, unless your company is a major multinational, domains similar to yours regged in asian TLDs probably aren't worth worrying about; they likely won't even bother regging / will drop quickly when no reply to their letters.

Thanks, I was sort of thinking the register was just trying to sell domain names. Seriously, why would anyone in China/Asia be interested in owning a company called SeattleLinux?

Just trying to con you into regging your name in their extension.

If it's one of those letters that said they did a free search and found you are
one of those qualified trademark holders, it can make one wish they'd register
the domain name for you for free. :D
