theres been some really high bids for mediocre names over the last month or so. I dont think it is.

At 12 CST (when bidding was closed) it was at 7k . . . it jumped to 8500 after bidding was closed (and it was obviously caught). . . .probably someone trying to see how much the top bidder was willing to go.

crazy that 2 people were willing to go to 7k
and 1 at least was at 8.5k

If you bid but then don't pay, it seems to be fine by NW rules. It just goes to the second highest bidder, the third highest bidder.... Think about the various setups that one could deploy to dissuade others from bidding on the name. You could use a whole team of buddies with multiple credit cards, even disposable debit cards, to do this.

I just find it ludicrious to think there are people who would rather pay $8k for a name for a third-rate dropped name than just go buy the name off the owner for $200 before it drops. But just my opinion. I'm not saying that NW is doing anything wrong. I'm just saying that there appears to be strong patterns of system manipulation by users.

Remember when people were Blaming people on DNF that would list a few of the better names that were dropping for the CAUSE of the ridiculas prices on NW ..

Anyway, you can get all the dropping names from NW's excellent search feature now. So no advantage (or disadvantages) there. Also, deleteddomains.com does that more comprehensively.

Snaps only allows one app per name, so drops aren't necessarily a short-term planning strategy. The alternative, is of course to move in an try to buy it from the owner. But many times (for the good names) I suspect the owner has lost his/her admin details

Yea and when you do locate them, they turn around and renew for 3 years and ignore your emails. Not even a thank you. Made that mistake once, now I just let em drop.

That has been my experience as well. I just let them drop now. You go out of your way to let them know their name is expiring and they don't even thank you.
