A little birdie.com told me Pool is going to ask customers to review its auction system this week.

So should they ditch it and go back to the old system ?

I think its the worse move they have ever made - they have lost customers because of it who will never come back.

Old system was fine. Charge $1 (non-refundable) to add a name to one's list, and that will get rid of the peanut-gallery who have no intention of bidding, but just want to see the final price. Credits can be given to those who have a track record of being real buyers.

No they need to add another phase.

The 'Last Squeeze' phase.

FAQ

What is the Last Squeeze phase?

The Last Squeeze phase starts at the end of the Challenger Auction phase. We list the domain at the bottom of the front page of the Pool.com website with the winning bid from the Challenger Auction phase. We will then allow public bids on the name over the current price for a period of 3 weeks.

If the highest bidder from the Challenger Auction actually manages not to be beaten in the public domain...they will be awarded (like a medal for endurance) the name.

What happens at the end of the Last Squeeze phase?

At the end of the Last Squeeze phase your name, that you have been awarded, gets dropped into whats called No Mans Land.

Where is No Mans Land

Wait for an email

Wait for an email from who?

Some company somewhere

Pool.com is again innovating and leading the way of constantly pushing the boundaries of acceptability in the secondary domain name industry.

I am no fan of Pool.

However, we do not want them to go out of business.

One catcher keeps the other catchers honest.

Personally, I think there is room for one more major player.

This could be accomplished by a new player entering the picture.
Or, NW AND GD become more effective.

Should be fairly simple to do.....unless emailing 15-20 people is difficult?

If I ever get that e-mail, I'll tell them to stick with the current system, you
all should too.

This will put them out of business faster.

Honestly? I think the guy who came up with the current system should be fired. That was a really dumb low IQ psycho play. I could accurate name 5 irrefutable reasons why that was a atupid move even with one bottle of Bacardi 151 in my system. Domainers are not as stupid as Pool would like to think.

I agree, but I think greed played a bigger role than stupidity in this one.

I speculate that the idea was the brain-child of the owner of Pool.

And, that is why some of the management of Pool recently left.

which management of pool left?
Anyhow, it really looks like a desperate move.
Isnt that kind of strange with pool's huge success?
If you are successful, why change the formula?

Yeah. Pool should remain at this current system. Looking forward for their failure.
