Should there be a daily limit on marketplace posts?

Just sharing an observation.

These days it’s quite common to open the homepage and see it filled with sales threads from the same seller. In some cases the whole first page is just one person posting domain after domain.

I’ve even had to put some users on ignore just to see other members’ listings.

Right now we have the 72-hour bump rule, but in practice it doesn’t seem to change the situation much.

Maybe another approach could work better:
• shorten the bump interval to 12 hours, or even 6 hours
• at the same time limit each member to around 4–8 marketplace posts or self-bumps per day

The idea isn’t to reduce activity.

A shorter bump interval would allow listings to refresh more frequently. But with a daily cap per member, the homepage would naturally become a mix of different sellers, instead of long consecutive blocks from the same person.

If someone has dozens of domains to sell, portfolio or list-style threads could also work well and may even be easier for buyers to browse.

Just curious if others have noticed the same thing.

Yes have been noticing the same thing, and quite good idea. This might put an end to what I call it "bump spam" :D

We may see quality domains bumped often that bumping every single thing every single day. What do you think @Helmuts ?
Thanks for the feedback.

What I’m suggesting wouldn’t actually reduce exposure. In fact it could increase it.

For example, if the bump interval were shortened from 72 hours to something like 6 hours, a seller could bring the same domain back to the homepage several times a day. That means more frequent visibility for the same listing, instead of appearing only once every three days.

The difference is that the exposure would be spread out over time, rather than appearing as a large block of threads from the same seller all at once.

It could also encourage members to log in more often. Instead of posting dozens of threads in one session and disappearing for three days, people might return multiple times a day to bump or check other listings. That could naturally increase overall forum activity.

The bigger issue right now is when someone owns hundreds or even thousands of domains and posts dozens or hundreds of threads at once. When the homepage becomes dominated by a single seller, other members may simply stop browsing. That doesn’t really help the marketplace.

One possible approach could be limiting how many times a member can push their own sales threads per day, for example somewhere around 4–8 threads. That would still allow active sellers to promote their listings, while preventing the homepage from being dominated by a single account.

It could also be tiered by member level. New members might have a smaller daily limit, while established members or legacy paid members could have slightly higher limits, still with a reasonable cap.

So the goal isn’t to limit sellers, but to balance visibility while keeping the forum active for everyone.
