I was actually kind of surprised to see such a price paid.

This is clearly a niche market, seasonal in nature, and typically for the affluent.

Very nice to see this money being shelled out for these niches.

Imagine the portal site this could be and the money clients would be willing to pay to get listed, ranked, and premium ad space.

Some of these high dollar names will probably have some nice development behind them. SkiResorts.com would qualify as a truly great travel site. It's perfectly descriptive like Hotels.com or Homes.com. No doubt where skiers will go to get updates on snow conditions, lodge and course specials.
