I was going to make a post about that myself.
Today I was bidding on names that did not even drop.

Looks like Verisign is playing GOD once again...

Every .com and .net scheduled for tomorrow and half of today's has been moved back to Wednesday. Very odd.

I think it's all irrelevant. I think most of the NRR's on all good names are taken (that's assuming that that service actually grabs the backorder). And, many more will instantly be taken due to snapnames policy on converting snaps into WLS's

I doubt that the big players will have to shell out to much more money than they already have --not unless they want to continue buying up worthless domains just because it's fun!

By now, if they haven't, something must be really wrong. I grabbed my NRR slots for all the names I ever wanted a few hrs after it opened without fanfare.

Yeah, I have about 5 really good names and about 5 more so-so ones.

How did you find out about them that soon? I didn't find out about it until like two or three weeks later and that was only after a LOT of research to sign up for WLS...

I would bet that Ultsearch, BuyDomains, etc.... have already purchased over 250,000 WLS slots.

If relatively small players are buying them up, imagine what people with millions to spend are doing!

Let's see.....
250,000
x $39.00
----------------
9,750,000.00!

Gee, I wonder if Verisign has any "financial" incentive for the WLS to begin?

Can you please show me an official statement of this? I don't think this was every decided on, correct me if i'm wrong but when it goes LIVE anyone tied in with the API will be able to order including registars themselves (ENOM).

Even if WLS *never* starts and they have to refund everyone's money, they're probably earning 2% or more on that $10M.

Hey Clemson,

It's from their website, but it sounds like you have to request it via email.

Here's a link and a copy/paste:

"I have credits in my SnapNames account. What will be done with them?
These also are eligible for conversion into WLS. Simply pick a domain name you'd like to back-order via WLS and request that we attempt to secure a WLS position for you.

Alternatively, you can assign your SnapBack credit to a name ending in ORG or CO.UK, since SnapBack will continue to acquire ORG and CO.UK names after the introduction of WLS."

What... buy WLS slots in advance?

If that's what you're asking, they're talking about NRR (Next Registration Rights) slots, actually. They're not technically WLS, but they will buy WLS slots the instant they're available (sorry, if you already knew that :goofy: )

Hello Miss Flora,

WLS = Waiting List Service (or something like that)

It's the end all be all to domain grabbing. It is a first-come; first-served list that will end "direct" auction grabbing services for .com and .net domains.

There's a lot more to it and to the "auctions" of WLS spots, but that's basically what it is...
