which provides the better payback generally?

parking or developing?

I do have a small hosting/webdesign company and will consider developing as much of my portfolio that makes sense, but I just want to understand this part of the business before I put in the time.

should one park first to find the hot names then develop/sell?

I think it depends on a few things:

1. The domain
2. Your interest and knowledge of the subject
3. Your interest/knowledge of web design/development
4. Your interest/knowledge of the ppc industry and optimizing for clicks
5. Time to develop

So, if you have good knowledge of all of the above then developing your name is definitely the way to go...

If you have a decent keyword domain but have little or no knowledge of the above I would park...

For 99% of my domains I would sell at any time if the offer is right, that is a personal thing I guess, each domain owner likely gets attached to particular names... I actually turned down a decent offer for one just recently and I also sold a few for what I consider to be too little, depends on my mood/need for money I guess...

I'm new, but I'm betting that developing my own domains will be better than parking

Depends on your knowledge of various subjects.
