Welcome back to high forty low fifty degree weather. :-O

thanks bro. can't beat the nice vegas sun and constant 8% humidity. and
let's not forget the girls and gambling!

good news for us all with this snap thing. it means WLS is in trouble. WLS
would have destroyed the game for all the small-mid players.

wonder what i'll do with all these WLS domains i bought like 2 years ago. lol

Are you sure?

I have no idea what's going on with WLS, but i wonder may be this move by Snapnames mean something else...

Til now Snapnames customers are promised to get preferred treatment when WLS starts. Since Snapnames is not a registrar, the registrars opposing WLS would have argued that it's an unfair practice to give Snapnames (a 3rd party outside ICANN community) customers that preferred treatment. It would have created problems for both Verisign and Snamnames.
Now, no one has Snapnames subscription, so Snapnames customers won't be given any preference when WLS starts. So Verisign - Snapnames partnership would work smoothly without any problem. Also now Snapnames has no pressure from its customers to convert all of its snaps into WLS when it starts.

So now, Snapnames would make more money now until WLS starts, and WLS has one more problem solved.

So what you think? Is this possible?

Just so I've got this right, when you go to the transfered accounts and it asks you to put in a valid credit card, it deducts $60 from your bank account (even though it doesn't mention this) or whatever your CC is connected to. This is just for verification reasons correct? And should be refunded in a few days as a credit to your account right?

That's right Sleazy. Just confirmed that with SnapNames by phone today. I put a name in my account shortly after the new system opened and used a Mastercard tied to my PayPal account. I noticed that a pending charge for $60 immediately appeared in my PayPal account. Snapnames said this was for verification purposes but the PayPal money will not be available until their authorization hold expires after a set period of time (this takes longer at PayPal than at most banks). So though the Snapnames site says there will be no charge, you will be without the funds for a few days.

Actually it's not uncommon for merchants to do that to make sure a card is valid or has sufficient credit. It's really of no financial benefit to SnapNames because they do not get the $60, only the knowledge that the money is available. I have since had additional communications with them indicating that within a few days they will have the system code changed so that only $1 is held in the authorization process so that customers won't be inconvenienced by having a larger amount on hold.

Yes, I mentioned that to SnapNames. PayPal is miserably slow at making your funds available again when a hold has been placed on them. However, if you really need the money you can call them and they will release the hold. I did that a couple of months back with GoDaddy had a system problem that was resulting in double billing to my account (1 real charge and another auth for the same order). PayPal immediately released all of the funds on hold when I called.
