I ran a session at the recent TRAFFIC conference where I set myself the challenge of developing a domain from business model (cashflow) through to actual live site in 60 minutes. After asking various members of the audience for a domain they would like me to use I selected socialmutants.com which is owned by Claude Dauman.
So Claude braved the entire audience and came down the front to work with me over the next 60 minutes to develop his domain. I want to really thank him for his efforts as he was a wealth of information on what he would like to do with it.
So for the first 30 minutes I developed a 12 month cashflow for the new startup business. It would have been better to have more time but it had the basics in it of business drivers, revenue, expenses and of course profit. You can download the cashflow here: 12 month Cashflow
Once we had the cashflow in place we knew the type of site that was to be developed so for the next 30 minutes I built a site using Joomla and a variety of plugins. You can view the site at a placeholder domain at vegascasinotrips.com the site has full blogging capabilities, social networking and a way to make money from advertising. I even developed the logo from scratch in CorelPaint.
Sure, the site lacks content and it's only a framework but it just shows what you can do with some really focused effort. At the end of the session I had a LOT of people come up to me and say that they learned a lot and didn't realise how fast you could actually get things together for a domain.
