What program do you use to query whois in bulk ?
I was quite happy with the old version of "Watch my Domains" but now they launched Domain Punch (surely with many interesting additions but I don't like it ...).

I asked them, offering to pay in advance the requested cost, to add only a couple of features to my previous version but they refused affirming the new version can cover all my needs ... I don't understand this company, I told them to give me a quote, no matter what the price was ... In case I'd have accepted it, I'd have paid in full in advance but nothing to do :(

In few words, I only need full support for .org TLD added to my old version, nothing of so difficult to do :(

Is there any similar software today on the market which can display whois for com net and org domains in bulk ?

Thanks for helping.

Thanks Andrew, maybe DNA might be still acceptable for me as graphic ... Tomorrow I'll try their demo

If you're looking for a REAL bulk whois tool, then PM me. But that's all it does -- feed it a billion domain names in the com/net/org space and it will come back with a sequential disk file of the entire results including the 'second pass'; i.e. the complete registrant's information. The disk files containing the results are named by registrar. No fancy windows, just raw 32-bit console power. I have also written parsers for the top 5 registrars' output so that you can store the information in a database (USA only). Just run the parsers giving the whois output filename as mentioned above as the command string.

It's as simple as this:

1. At the command prompt, type:

>qwhois [yourinputfile]

2. Output is second pass whois data by registrar filename, e.g. 'results-register.com'

3. To parse that output into a fixed field, sequential database (easily importable to Excel, SQL or Access etc.), just type:

>register results-register.com

Results are databased like this:

ORGANIZATION¦STREET¦CITY¦STATE¦ZIP¦DOMAIN¦NAME¦EMAIL¦UPDATED¦CREATED¦EXPIRY¦REGISTRY

Program has built-in whois server IP blocking intelligence and a few other tricks as well.

I wrote all this to do web demographics but perhaps I might sell it?

Disclaimer: Some registrars have policies that preclude bulk lookups. That's down to your own interpretation.

Cheers!

Works well imo :)

that's funny.
I think it was a waste of money.
Sooooo many times I get the 'green' domain available thingy, only to find it is not...
It seems to use outdated whois querries, and if it times out, it pretty much displays whatever it wants.

and the funny thing? It is a disaster for ccTLDs.

Many times it shows internet.gr as available, and the thing hasnt been available since I dont know when... (and I check the local whois and it shows it taken)
I wrote to the author a few times, he was very friendly, but no solution...

I'm looking for a script that can check a list of names in RE format. Does anyone know of such a beast?

Thanks ...

if you've got a server and some basic knowledge of shell scripting, i think the best way is to just write your own. you've got lots of control that way.

True, but where do I get the raw data from?

Writing a script and HTML etc. take time also, so I would prefer a ready-made solution.

I am sorry to hear that.

I dont use it extensivly, and when I do its jsut to format the domains (enter is domains @ gibberish, and get just the domains pastable back)

They don't support their software very well. When they changed the whois over to the pending delete, redemption etc I wrote them after two weeks of waiting for an update. the response I got back was that they would do it whenever they got around to it. No hurry!

And that was for the paid version:angry:

I recommend DNA pro version if you just want availability (it also includes the watch domains module) but if you're looking for full registrant details some of the registrars will limit queries after 2 or 3.

Under Verisigns contract with ICANN they can't ban a registrar or "domain reseller" from whois queries. It is only the individual registrars that can ban. If you're looking for general details of a domain eg registration current status you can use the verisign or crsnic or internic. If you want the full details some registrars will block you.
