Cyprus is divided into the Northern (Turkish) portion and the Southern (Greek)portion, with a UN Zone in between.

Southern Cyprus is a very popular destination for tourists, and a favourite of the Brits.

Looking for offers.

Cyprus has been invaded on the Northern part by the Turkish, there are not 2 countries nor two portions.

Although this is a sales thread, I suggest that you get educated on the issue - per the posts above and adjust your post.

Republic of Cyprus is the name of the country/island, with 41% of its land occupied after a Turkish invasion in 1974. The northern part, calls itself Northern Cyprus since 1983. No other nation in the world, except for Turkey, has recognized it as a state.

Therefore, you can't refer to the Republic of Cyprus as "southern Cyprus".

I think it is interesting the comments here, and they are allowed to continue. Those who live in Cyprus, often refer to it as northern Cyprus and southern Cyprus. Few people refer to it as the Republic of Cyprus, for example, even though that is official. Anybody can look up Wikipedia, and consider themselves educated, apparently, but that doesn't change the reality of the divisions in the country, with a UN zone right down the middle.

From your use of "favourite" I assume you're British. Let me remind you that the British occupied the island of Cyprus as a colony until its independence in 1960. Despite the fact that the occupied area under Turkish control is popular with the British for cheap "package holidays" and direct flight charters, you are spreading misinformation by stating that the island's inhabitants refer to it by its geographical split, south and north.

"Republic of Cyprus" is the full official name, with simply "Cyprus" as the most common used internationally, further signifying the lack of legalization of the Turkish occupied territory.

Furthermore, you're being insulting towards a Cypriot - ctc above, check his state flag of Cyprus - and two Greeks, by suggesting that we've known these facts simply by referencing Wikipedia.

To recap: Southern Cyprus is as good as saying Southern Texas, only worse.

I was not insulting anybody, and would never try to do that.
I was not telling anybody to get educated. That was, instead, coming my way, in a sales thread, no less.
There is a casual reference, (perhaps it's peculiar to people in the North?), of southern Cyprus.
As in many countries, people often refer to areas of their country in different ways, and I believe there is room for that, here, is there not?
As far as official designations of Cyprus, I agree with you completely.

Well, I should have said "offended" instead, not "insulted".

It's a sensitive issue because the name hints legalization of the status quo; in the 34 years since the Turkish invasion there has been progress between the Cypriot/Greek & Turkish relations on the island, but there can be no resolution without re-instating 250,000 Cypriot refugees to their properties & removing 40,000 Turkish troops from the occupied territory.

People of Cyprus refer to the north as "the occupied (land)". You'll never hear any reference to "north/northern Cyprus". Likewise, the use of "southern Cyprus" is artificial and I haven't even heard it from residents of the Turkish occupied portion of the island. Maybe as an intentional use by Turkish nationalists in order to diminish the reality that the Republic of Cyprus is the only internationally accepted name for the nation on the island.

Thanks :)

From my understanding, you picked it in a drop?
Old cached pages show that its former owner, as back as 2003 had no idea what he was talking about. He displayed statistics about Cyprus (the Republic of Cyprus), in order to somehow increase the value of his "for sale" domain.

Unfortunately, in a country divided by war, the "north" and the "south" (North Korea - South Korea) have different meaning than, say, a unified country where geographical pointers refer to the segments within the country itself e.g. Northern Greece - Southern Greece.

I hope this helps.
