I have a few names that I'm looking to get appraised and to sell. An hour ago, the WHO raised the Pandemic Alert Level to phase 4, which means we are going into a full blown pandemic. Here is the link to the WHO confirming they raised the Alert Level:

http://www.who.int/csr/disease/avian_influenza/phase/en/index.html

Anyway, assuming we're entering the pandemic, and considering this flu strain is quite lethal as 50% of all patients in Mexico required hospitalization (with 149 dead), any idea what these names might be worth?

Thanks.

You will get some traffic on
swineflunews.com
swinefluinformatiom.com

They will worth more that Reg Fee. IMO mid xx to Low xxx.
Rest domains will depend on end user's demand.

I will suggest you to park or develop mini site for the all domain.

I have Swine flu site and decided to develop it as News site.

You will find out how much you would likely get for swineflu.net when swineflu.com is sold in the next few days. I be surprised if the com gets less than $10,000.

As nobody has replied to the swine name thread I created, I'll raise this point here. If and when tens of thousands of Americans are being hospitilised for swine flu next week, won't the men in black come knocking at the door of the owners of these swine flu domains? I mean shouldn't these names be government property?

I have a few good swine flu names and to be honest when people start dying I think I would prefer a public body or even a drug company to have them (with just a little bit of compensation hopefully for me), even though I was very excited when I snapped them up.

Its nothing to do with 'profiting from tragedy' because that is a fact of life. Its more to do with feeling my domains could be put to better use by more knowledgeable people.

The seller is an established member here, hopefully he'll let us know, or at least we'll either get a general figure or see it in DNJournal.

I think it's immoral to try and make a profit off the name swine flu. This is not a laughing matter. People are dying from this virus.

How is it immoral? We're businessmen, bottom line. The trick to these domains are to sell them during the hype. The swine flu will probably be squashed just like the bird flu was so sell them during this period when it's in the media.

I've dedicated a few free years to educating people about pandemic flu. Hell, I've probably even saved a few lives on the way. Thousands of hours into it and never made one penny. I've spent thousands of dollars as well with regard to warning people. Yes, I have no problem making money off a pandemic and death at this point. It's kind of who I am I suppose. Maybe they should call me DR. Death eh?

A minisite with adsense in the meantime would be great.

Millions of people will be looking for information and they don't need to land on parked pages.

In consultation with an attorney, if you decide to make a mini site, please add this disclaimer:

This site is for information purposes only and is not affiliated with the CDC.
No information given constitutes medical opinion, advice or treatment.
Always consult your physician and/or go to the Emergency Room when experiencing symptoms or illness.

I was offered 10k for swineflu.org yesterday. I can either sell and let the person put Google ads on it. Or I can develop the site with no google ads at all, but for a service to help people - without making a penny. Life is too short, and I chose option 2. The site is already up and running at swineflu.org. You tell me -- my site as a free service to people, Or a Paper Click site? Life is not always about making a buck.

Also -- apparently the WHO is about to go to phase 5, possibly even today. Come next fall, it will be hell on earth I'm afraid.

wow. The asking price for swineflu.com is now $55,000.

no moral issue here

good luck with your domains!

people can use google or cdc website and many other reliable sources to find the info

btw:
The annual human flu in the U.S. "results in approximately 36,000 deaths and more than 200,000 hospitalizations each year. (Wikipedia)

do you know how many websites and companies profit from the usual human flu?

the un's world health organization has raised the alert over the spread of swine flu to level five - one short of a full-blown pandemic.

I appreciate the support gang. I'm glad nobody got on me too bad for it, lol. 10k is a lot of money that I could really use, believe me. The wife is not happy about this. It's probably a dumb business decision overall as the name might be worthless come next January when the vaccine is ready. The problem is that the first few months of next flu season could be a very difficult and scary time for people. This virus can do a lot of damage when next flu season comes around and there aren't really any other sites around to help anyone. So what I am suppose to do?? Yes, I'm afraid that domain name will never be sold anytime soon, and I will most likely walk away broke from it in the end. I will be begging to get my reg fees back in a year from now, lol.

What the heck! I was never very good at selling domains anyway!
