Might be some registered tms, but I would still say generic. I have a customer who custom makes kilts for scottish clans / families. She actually researches the family & hand makes the correct colors, etc.

Just a hint: registering tm's for generics is not easy. Go to http://uspto.gov and search for tartan.

BTW, I had no idea tartan = plaid. Forgive me but grew up associating the word with the building material used in track & field : http://www.tartan-aps.com

Hi again. Did you know that A Tartane or tartan was a small ship used both as a fishing ship and for coastal trading in the Mediterranean. They were in use for over 300 years until the late 19th century.
