Are you .TEL Ready?

.tel provides the contact information you need most in one convenient place - the palm of your hand. Your personal or company's online directory - that you control!
  • Manage all the ways customers and friends can reach you from a single domain that's yours forever
  • Protect your private data
  • Take back control of your business and personal information and share it securely
Users of the .tel domain will be able to manage their "universal identity" simply by inputting a .tel domain name into their devices. By offering a "universal identity" for individuals, brands, and organizations alike, .tel is likely to have many positive, far-reaching effects on the way business is conducted.

About .TEL Technology

The .tel allows you to store, publish and update online all your contact information and keywords under your unique domain name, without the need for a website. Simple, fast and accessible from any device, .tel provides a new internet standard to take full control over how and where people reach you.
.TEL is different from other TLDs. All existing Top Level Domains (e.g. .com, .net, .org, .fr, .mobi ...) serve the same purpose: they map domain names to web sites via DNS. The .tel is not about web content and does not use the DNS in this way. The .tel domain is the first TLD to use the DNS in an entirely new way - as a global data store.
About .TEL Registry

Telnic Limited, the UK-based operator of .tel, has selected NeuStar to provide back-end domain name registry services (including SRS, Whois, DNS, billing and customer support) and DNS resolution systems for .tel. Telnic was founded in 1998 to develop and deliver cutting-edge technology and solutions specifically for the .tel domain.
How much does .TEL cost?

During the Sunrise, DotTel charges non-refundable application fee to cover the verification expenses.
  • Application Fee: $335.00 (NON-REFUNDABLE)
If the registration application is received successfully, customers are charged an annual registration fee:
  • Registration Fee: $15.00 (Per Domain Year)
  • Registration Term: 3 years

Sure sounds like an existing website to me. More unnecessary duplication ala mobi.

Where are they going to be hosting all this stuff? All it takes is 1 person to find a flaw in it and they will lose everyone's contact information. Seems completely unnecessary to me. Also, seems like the perfect data mining exercise for spammers out to steal your phone numbers and addresses.

.waste of time. Oh hey i can make a stupid site for my contact info. Im so innovative. When will these lame TLD Sponsors learn that if technology is going to integrate the internet then you can use a .COM no need for additional noise like .mobi, .tel or .travel (one of the worst) I would like to see a gTLD .YourMama or .inBed ;)

there doesn't seem much point, like as been said already, you can use your site, if you wanted to you can create a page thats just for this purpose and make it cell phone friendly.
ftaylor makes a good point about spammers data mining
