We need to open a Pop3 mailbox on 5 domains we own, only one mailbox per domain but we don't need hosting of any other sort of feature, only a minimum storage of 10/15Mb for our mailbox and, of course, a reliable provider.

Well, what's the cheapest way to solve this problem ? Should we transfer them to a Registrar which offers this kind of service ?
Who should we choose ?
The only important thing is that our mails should not get lost ...

Hmm ... lost e-mail is just a fact of (Internet) life (like spam). I guess the industry standard is about 4%.

Why not just order a small hosting package at my signature and get the pop3 they offer. They offer 100% uptime guarentee and you can host as many domains as you want. All come with Pop3 accounts.

The hosting company that I use for nameslave.com has a generous amount of pop mailboxes with every plan which goes well even with forwarding/mirroring domains at no extra cost. You can even have web-based mailboxes@yourdomain for free.

I have been asking for uptime guarantee in a number of different forums, but am still curious at it: what is the standard for a "decent" (not the best or excellent) uptime ratio? 99.6%? 99.7%? I'm glad to learn that there is actually a 100% uptime guarantee host, but do they refund pro rata for downtime? Thanks.

DomainEmpire.com :

Enom Email Paks for $10/year

NameSlave :
Different host, different TOS. Some refund or give you free month, some don't.

With 99.9% uptime guarantee, the host still have 43.2 minutes downtime tolerance which mean you can't complain if their downtime is under that value in a month. :)
Of course this is not including maintenance time frame. :)

How does the 100% uptime Guarantee work?

Simple. If your site is down for more then 15 mintutes, we refund you 5% of your monthly bill and 5% for every 10 minutes there after.

I believe most hosts offer 99.9% but I have tried some of those and have had sites down for hours and even days at a time. Since I been with Oxeo, my site hasn't been down for even 1 minute.

so if your site is down for 205 minutes in a month it's all free. I doubt that will happen at Oxeo though. They are the fastest and most reliable host company I have been with and I have been with about 10.

Thanks. My current host has an all-time servers up record (I have been with them since August 1999) in the range of 99.9896% - 99.8969% for my 100+ domains on a shared hosting plan. So I guess I should bear with them, right?

My experience with hosting companies is that you can be with someone who you think is the best in the business one minute, and next minute they become totally useless. It got to the stage about a year and a half ago where I just gave up trying to recommend hosting companies to clients. We subsequently started working with Rackspace in the UK and have found them exemplary for serious dedicated hosting. What I'd say though is that if you have a hosting arrangement that works, stick with it!

Luigi:

You can redirect your NS to mydomain.com Set up your domains there to resolve back to your host. You can set a catch all email address which means all five email addresses you have will come to one box of your choosing. It will also catch any other email that comes your way example webmaster@ or sales@.

You can then tag the emails to a seperate folder according to where it came from.

It saves logging into 5 accounts. It's also free.

I have over 1000 sites set up to resolve to one email address.

Thanks gmartfin, we're already using MyDomain but there's a small risk with them ... I prefer sending you a PM about it :)

gmartfin : It's a pain if you get spammed on those 1000 sites. :)
