I have some domains having "the" prefix, e.g., TheEnglish.com, TheFootball.com. I got good appraisals of "TheDoc.com" in http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7501.
Of cource, there is big difference between w/"The" and w/o "The".
Does "the" kill the value of domain, generally ?
What do you think about "the" ?

And I hope to have appraisals of "TheName.net" ;)

i would say "the" names are universally bad. i really do not like "the" as a domain prefix for any name. even it was "thesex.com"

Thank you, kidkool.

Let's watch who took "TheMacintosh.com" :)

"The" works where it makes sense. Your example of TheFootball has very limited marketing potential; whereas, well known marketing tags like "TheOne", "ThePower", or "TheArtist" have intrinsic value.

My first Fender Stratocaster was a The Strat model - people went through a phase of naming products in this definitive way in the 80's - I think there was a The Paul as well. I notice thestrat.com has gone.

really depends...theinternet.com is much better than thenaturalist.com but either way i do not go after domains with the prefixes unless they have traffic

"The" is definitely a major negative. Having said that, I did register TheTop40.com and TheTopForty.com (so people will land on the site either way). Couldn't get them without "The" and I want to do a Top 40 site for music, movies, etc (Top 40 is a highly searched term). Still in buying the names I realized they have no resale value to speak of on their own. Any value will have to come from how well I develop the site and generate traffic.

Yes! And, I don't think highly of them, at all ... of course, good 'development could almost always overcome this.
Good Luck.

Thank you, everyone.

ULT got "TheMacintosh.com" :)

Actually, I own some e/i names, e.g., eTechno.com, iSnap.com.
I like them :D

I think that not single word .biz/.info have less resale value at this moment.

If I were to name a bakery, I think TheBagleShop would be better than BagleShop.

If I were a cobler, I think I d name my business TheShoeMan over ShoeMan.

Picking domain names is not exactly the same as picking shop names but there are similarities IMO.

Duke of Earl, you mentioned you owed stores before, what do you think?

I would agree with The in the store name but wouldn't use it in the domain name. Shorter and fewer words is better for domains.

hmmm... starting to make me wonder about this one i have:

TheSpotlight.com

:-(

I sold "TheRX" for a good price and still have some good ones,

TheCword
TheMilitia
TheBambino

(All .coms)

If you like "the" as a prefix, and it makes sense, go for it.

____________
www.dropservice.com
Not the best site for snapping names,
just the best name.

Then you may be interested to know that a friend of mine sold a "The" (.com) name to a company for $11k.

I guess everything's relevant - to the buyer :)

Deb
TheSweetest.com :)
