Great thread... but I have 5 pieces of advice...sorry.

1) Research why someone wants to buy a domain from you, and find out who they really are if you can.

2) Try to associate with people who are as successful or more successful than you are.

3) Buy at least 1 domain every day. (my goal is at least 5)

4) Stay away from Pool.com

5) The only thing that really matters is your family.

Agree with DCG.
plus,domain=traffic=$

- My biggest error - Don't hedge on spending a good chunk on a great, generic name even if it is way over your budget
- Monetize your traffic IMMEDIATELY if you have a high traffic name (I left LITERALLY thousand/ probably 5 figures on the table last year)
- Just because no one else is chasing a name doesn't mean it isn't EXTREMELY valuable. My most valuable names are ones I was able to get with a 8.75 NW bid or hand reg.

Always have fun and love what you do. Once you lose your passion and enjoyment you lose your edge.

I would be looking at a higher daily income every day. Nothing is better than passive income!

I wonder when will i jump out of the rat race :-)

Development is the key !

If you can not sell a name based on its' current merits, develop it into a full fledge site and let the prospective buyers know about it. Once they see the potential, they will have more incentives to buy...

Wow, what a great thread! I'm glad I asked. Thanks to all that responded to my post.
