Telecom Italia, Samsung sign agreement for WiBro trials

Telecom Italia, along with South Korean electronics company Samsung, will run Europe's first WiBro trials during the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics. The technology represents the next step after UMTS and is currently being tested in South Korea, Japan and the US.
WiBro handsets and other new 'superphones' can transfer data and download video, music, film and TV shows at speeds of up to 20-30 Megabits per second, much higher than the maximum speeds possible with UMTS.
Where UMTS allows users to make a single video call, WiBro can handle multiple video calls simultaneously, allowing for multi-point video conferencing while simultaneously keeping open an audio, video, TV or internet multimedia session.
