I regged it 1 year ago. I never knew they were making a movie.
Read the wiki, says they wrote it in 2009. The movie is set for 2010.
Sounds like they made the move last summer. So the earliest you could know is then they started filming. I had it way before that.

there are a few other choices on names they can use so this name is not worth much...if they inquire don't give a high price because for $7.99 they can go around you.

It can definitely become a TM issue. It really depends how you use it.

I would make a wordpress blog about different, miscellaneous songs and throw some adsense up on it

Have you noticed any spike in traffic?

No I haven't noticed any spike in traffic.
I see what you meant now, they might claim trademark.

If you have the domain before they filed for a trademark you should be safe.

Shouldn't matter. Movie and song titles are usually okay. Interesting to note: theLastSongthemovie.com was registered Nov 5, 09 (looks like a speculator), and LastSongthemovie.com was registered July '08 (may be the movie people). And, it's a Miley Cyrus movie. "the last song" or "last song" is also a song title from the 70s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_Bear

I doubt they will want to buy the domain from you, I had a movie domain before and even worked with the marketing exec from the movie and they had no interest in buying it. They can spend a few dollars and buy any other name for a few $$ and with all their marketing it won't make a difference.

You could try and make a fan site for it though. That's what I did and the studio even sent me press photos, trailer, giveaways, etc. =)

They contacted me because I also had a facebook/twitter page talking in the voice of the character  Then we did some stuff together.

They will probably use lastsongmovie.com or lastsong-movie.com, lol. or even a .net

From some of the domains you see movies use, you'd think they didn't care.

That is cool idea.

I feel safe because I had the domain long before they had the movie or script or anything. They think I can read the future. That is why I say its lucky break maybe.

I bought it cuz it had a romance brand to it. I was right, they made a movie!

LastSongthemovie.com was registered July '08
I bet this is them. Has the right time frame for when they created the movie. So doubtful they want the exact name.

I can make a fan site out of it at least.

I have a movie name domain which was registered since 1997.
A movie uses the same name (2005, IMDB 6.x) and their official domain is DomainNameMovie.com. It's also Will Smith's famous lines in one of his best movies. I have received several offers in mid $xxx - low $x,xxx for it. Just FYI. If you wanna know the domain, drop me a PM. The movie maker does have many options with the domain name. You won't see much positive traffic stats unless the movie really takes off. But the domain TheLastSong.com makes sense and it's worth something to someone. Good luck with it.

Make your own movie and post it on the domain's web site, then sue them in 2010 :D

Reality check. To get traffic:

The movie has to be popular.

If it does by chance become popular they will advertise their own url and you will only get a fraction of that traffic.
Any traffic you do get will decrease as the movie plays on.
