this is why .iphone or .apple is better than iphone.com or apple.com

Well imagine the iphone has the .com button right? Now which one will they introduce in the future? I think the .com will become the second choiceon the iphone this is why:

music.iphone
games.iphone
ipod.apple
iphone.apple
downloads.apple
anything.apple or .iphone
name of artist.ipod
name of band
etc... etc...
1st apple would not lose any traffic to cybersquatter (you and I) 2nd it would build a very strong brand base.

same thing for google, why search anymore?
No need
hotelparis.google goes straight to the search string or hotel paris.google
etc...etc...
Some companies if they are smart will push their own extension a lot.
For apple for instance they need to add the button .apple instead than the .com and 100% .apple would be a lot more valuable than apple.com

Toughts?

How about iphone.apple.com ? ipod.apple.com etc.
This way the brand is not diluted over a gazillion TLDs with dubious future.

not really if someone wants to go to games.apple.com he can go there no problem.
Just imagine the traffic in adding the .apple button on the iphone. Why wont they increment esponantially their revenue? The internet its only 20 years old there is so much time to change. Thinking the .com will be around in 30 years it just blows my mind. It will be just another extension. Once the dot will be eliminated will see. Simply apple goes to apple etc... .com will be left for Cuba as a vanity extension (short version of comunism)

Apple loves .com so much that they spent almost $500k to get me.com
I see no reason for them to change to an exotic TLD.
Buttons on devices are like the .mobi argument.

These domain names will never catch on and you can quote me for saying that.

The general public won't even know that music.iphone is a domain name. It will be a waste of money that will make ICANN rich and will "solve" the problem of "running out of domain names."

You are right. Please pm me your now worthless one word and generic .com's....I am a sucker for collectables ;)

Not really .mobi is made of speculators and domainers nothing else it is a dead extension.
They would push it because its theirs and no one else has it. The thing is that extension will be actually developped not like .com's .mobis .me etc... The onle extension that will not be developped are the one that will be bought by domainers (if they can get ahold of them) like .cmo

The only button with text on it that I regularly push, says "ON/OFF" :D

Onward once my domain wil lose traffic I will sure as hell sell them to you at collector price.
Guys once the dot is gone say bye bye to com.
Extension will cost like domains in the future it might be in 10 20 years but it will happen. If you think this wont have an impact...

I want "IPityThe.foo"

I am not certain that companies across the board with actually be to keen on this whole new concept. It seems it really opens the door for endless trademark disputes and will increase the number of typos.

Example:
so apple gets .iphone, certainly someone else is going to get .phone.

Natural destinations cell.phone, a.phone, i.phone, my.phone, etc.

People are just used to .com, habit is a strong force.

Try explaining someone, not a domainer, to go to games.iphone instead of games.iphone.com..

It will take years and lots of marketing and advertising till this can catch on, I don't think we should worry yet.

Imagine the practically endless array of typos cybersquaters will have to play with. Not to mention spammers. I shiver just thinking about it. Whew!

What about .goog?

google :) , they can, but they won't..

Great post! Maybe we should move it to the Humor Section?

Will se once google will give away .google or .goog or .g domain names...
Time will tell

Apple would rather drive traffic to their own premium, established .com domains rather than promote a klingonian extension.
Besides, when you ditch your iphone and switch to motorola or another maker poof the branding button is gone :)

Reminds me of the mobi button too, one of the best urban legends of recent times :ok:

This is the most important point in the discussion. Unless there is a massive change in the way people work then all new extensions are near decade-long projects. Companies like Apple or most especially Ebay (which has repeatedly asked for its own extension), will likely launch this and advertise it en masse. However, the average Joe Consumer is not going to grasp this very well. It may take until his children start teaching him that he will begin to use it sparsely when the need dictates it.

Sure in 2 years we'll see these new TLDs but it will be a few more before they actually impact our market.

That being said, it is clearly the way of the future.

Apple will invest in .com for the next Century.

This has to be a joke. Right?

You are calling everyone on the forum a cybersquatter?
