I am looking to employ a scripter for a domain name related web site.

I was hoping I could get a few quotes for the job.

Here is the information:

Though.net
============
The web site, called though.net, will offer available mainstream domain names to the general public. These will be in four main categories:-

com
net
org
others

com/net/org will be then divided into categories. A sample of categories is as follows:-

house & home
web design
credit
shopping

The "others" category names will then be divided by extension i.e. co.uk, .info, .biz etc.

I have analysed 5,000+ .com domain names leftover from last year's drops and these have been analysed in an Access database, to give the site a bit of a start.

I am hoping that other domainers will contribute names to the site.

Commissions
============
So you can see a simple database developing.

Now...central to the plan is that the use will be able to click on a name and register it with dotster.com.

The reason it is with dotster is so as the submitting domainer can earn a commission for creating the domain.

Database Structure
====================
I have already designed a database using Microsoft Access. Perhaps it would be helpful if I outlined the structure of the db, so here it is:-

domain id = unique domain name id.

domain = the domain name in question.

domainer id = domainer id, linked to "domainer" table, which will include the domainers CJ PID and AID for the purposes of earning commission.

extension id = domain extension id, linked to "extension" table i.e. .com/.net etc

status id = status id linked to the status table; a domain will be either status 1 (free) or 2 (taken).

ownership id = a domain can have a status of either one or two in this field; one denotes a name that is currently free to register; two denotes a name that the domainer is submitting for sale. (I am keeping the possibility of domainers also submitting their own names for sale so a further classification is required.)

category id = last but not least, there is the category id eg. whether the name is house & home, web design, credit, shopping etc.

Database Security
==================
My database knowledge is limited but I have a working Access database for the 5,000 names. However, I am conscious this may not be the most secure option - if you think mySQL is better then let's go that way.

The key security risk is that someone might try and hack the database and put in their own CJ id numbers - effectively stealing someone's hard earned commission.

If you can avoid this is in Access then that's fine.

Design
=======
I have a basic outline of the design which will also give you a very good idea of what is required.

Please visit this url:- http://www.afterdinner.net/though

If you click on .com, you will see the categories of the names.

Requirements
=============
You will see from the last section what is required.

A script must be produced which will output

- the names for a required category e.g. .com names/web design

- reflect *nb* all the fields in the db e.g. status id, extension id etc.

- we also need to "dig up" a url for the code with dotster, inserting the correct domain name, domainer id, and domainer cj codes.

- there's going to be a lot of "dotting the i's" and crossing the "t's" so please budget for this e.g. getting font colors right

- Leadership: I am really looking for someone to act as a leader on this. This is outside my direct area of expertise; what I don't want is "there's the script, off you go..." - what I want is full implementation. To be avoided: me getting an eMail and wondering "whatever is next!"

I am happy to help with design and any tasks that need doing.

Other Issues
=============

- Future Support: there will almost certainly be follow-up required; you must be available for this within a reasonable length of time.

- One reference from a similar project is required

- Marketing: sitepoint.com will be targetted for extensive marketing.
========================

CONCLUSION

To sum up, firstly thank you for reading this far.

This is a project I am fully committed to implementing in as professional a manner as possible - but I need help! I have the names analysed to give us a start.

So...if you enjoy working in the domain area, perhaps this would be a nice site for you to get involved in.

I look forward to hearing your quote!

Thanks Tippy - the idea is to get people to think about the site, so it's off to a good start!

Are you interested in working on the site?
