In just two days (well, roughly 29.5 hours) the 2008 Atlantic hurricane season will begin.

What frightens me is that the past two years have been very quiet for us, only one tropical storm hit us during that time (I won't deny it was a nice vacation after Frances, Jeanne, Katrina, Rita, and Wilma!).

I've started to buy my supplies but it's also time to make sure the (tiny) generator is working along with getting the electronics part of my weather station (receiver for the data and the laptop that collects all of the data) are hooked up to a battery backup (I think I need a new one) so when I lose power I can still collect data until the station itself is destroyed (grim thought, isn't it?).

At least we have a brand new roof over our heads, shutters for the front and back window, and the fence secured as well as it can (extra bolts on the poles into concrete).

It's scary to see the destruction that's already happened in Myanmar / Burma with their storm - I really hope it isn't a sign of what's to come for us here in south Florida.

Anyone else making preparations?

Still have my gas from last year, need to re-stock on some food, but the wife already has most of it. Will probably recycle half the gas to keep it fresh. Mostly good though. Ed, feel free to call me if something does happen, and you need something..

Run for the mountains! :D

Except, we have no mountains in Florida. OK, some hills and that's it.

Seriously, I've been used to the hurricane season in FL for the past 10+ years. Let's hope the season is calm although we need the rain.

Ever since we bought shutters 2-3 years ago we have not had to use them. Good to know the season is here so we can stock up early. Just hope we don't have to use them this year (knock on wood)
