I'd offer the name back in exchange for lifetime sex toy membership. Whenever your lady gets bored with one toy you will have another one in the mail.

better yet, maybe he will agree to put you in a couple of movies :D

This name seems to be very valuable - at least for a limited period (or longer, depending on the quality of the name).

Leasing would seem to be too messy in this situation as you would be left with a domain that you probably wouldn't be able to develop in the way you originally wanted.

I'd forget the bullsh1t about not having any money bla bla, and think of a figure...in the meantime, I hope you're harvesting emails from the name to be able to judge what level of business is passing through there.

Have you tried going in via the server's IP address?

So FTPing to the IP address, and providing the username and password as normal.

Plus hopefully you can access the page via ipaddress.com/~username

Y'all just confuse the hell out of me!

I am hardly a programmer or developer or a hack.

I know what I know and the rest is not important...well, so I thought.

I could easily set up an email address in one of my email accounts that mimics their address as shown in the links. Problem is, I would imagine that this would be illegal.

Ah okay, just ignore what I said then ;)

Probably just best to wait for the DNS to propogate over :)

It's odd - sometimes it's changed over in about 10 minutes on my end. Other times it's taken 6+ hours (or more)

GoDaddy seems to take the longest of any I have had to deal with.

Do this when you don't want to wait until your domain name server gets
propagated. At least YOU can see the site although other people
have to wait until it's fully propagated.

Find file called "hosts". It doesn't have any extension.
It is located in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Open that file with Note Pad and add...

IP address of your server Tab YourDomainName.com

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(Tab)YourDomainName.com

Save the file.

That's it.
You don't have to wait.

Why?

Could be a MEGA ROI - in certain quarters....:D :D

.
HAH!!!

I want nothing from this outfit ('cept maybe some money).

The domain is a good enough generic keyword name that I could (and will) give it a go as a site (especially with Christmas not that far off).

STILL waiting on those DNS settings to change. That bites!

instead of similar email address why not just use the catch-all option offered by some. That way all mail to any email add. will go to the one you specify.

Doc, its not complicated. While waiting for the domain to finish propagating use the server's IP address instead of the domain name for the "Host" in the FTP client.

Sell it for a reasonable amount.

If he really wants the domain back, he'll pay a reasonable amount for it, and it'll give him a lesson of a lifetime. He'll learn from his own mistake.

Also, if you plan on having it parked for a long time, you can give him control of MX records for a few months for a small price until he transitions to a different email account.

Okay, a very simple basic site is set up.

We'll see how it goes.

The domain is not bad at all and gives me ample opportunity for subdomains - including the porno thing - separate from the site's appeal.

If he's just using the name to disguise the nature of his business for email purposes, would any innocuous name not do? Surely he has a mailing list of customers whom he can contact with this new name? Or is this too simplistic?

the name is ten years old, was a site for about eight years, and has been used for email purposes and ordering for the past two years.

If you didn't intend on him getting the name back, you shouldn't have made him jump through hoops.
