Today is Earth Day. I learned that Earth Day started in 1970; it was so popular
that first year that the EPA was created by the end of 1970. By a Republican!
(Richard Nixon). Now you can hardly find a Republican anywhere who is
willing to say out loud they care about the environment, or want to help stop
global warming. Meanwhile Florida is one of the 4 worst areas in the world
when it comes to Climate Change risk - because they have so much low-lying
but very valuable real estate. In addition, Florida has a 'porous' kind of land
so a dike or wall kind of solution against rising sea level is not enough; the water
will seep in anyway. Anyone who owns property near the cost of Florida has
considerable long-term risk.
