Hope the MPAA doesn't come after your buyers because most torrents are illegal these days.

I was trying to give an example of a similar name for sale. Sorry for advertising.

Azt, I was referring to BitTorrent, which is the hottest peer to peer program right now. Sorry for the confusion. The MPAA and RIAA have sued many bittorent sites in the recent months for carrying copyrighted files (or torrents) so that's all that I was saying.

But what about just a forum with people listing links to torrents on other sites. Would that be illegal? I wouldn't think so, but I could be wrong.

songhound.com has users post links to songs on the internet, is that illegal?

Maybe these are questions for the legal forum...

Thanks for the appraisals. Anyone else have an opinion on the resale value of this name?

Posting links to torrentsites is totally legal. Also those "illegal" torrentsites are doing nothing against the law as they are only linking stuff and not hosting. If you start such a site go with Dutch hosting though :p

Was offered $400
or $200 + 2 custom Vbulletin skins (coded)
or 4 skins

I was hoping to get more, but I also don't want to be greedy.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Seems like a good price. If it has a lot of type-in traffic it's worth more of course.

I accepted the offer, but the buyer backed out today. More appraisals appreciated! I was thinking of listing it on eBay. I sold a couple of names in the past on eBay, but now it just seems saturated with $1,000,000 names and such. Is it still a good marketplace for a name like this?

Thanks.

Posting a link to a copyright challenged piece of work is illegal. This is called contributory copyright infringement and will still net you a hefty fine and possibly more.

Of course since you are delving into area that you are unsure of, I would suggest you consult a competent lawyer on intellectual property (IP) law.

Now since your post didn't deal with legal issues but other brought them up I will answer your post. To be honest I don't think you'll get that kind of price. The types of people running torrent sites are not the type that are going to spend thousands of dollars on a domain name. I've known a few of these guys and they barely want to pay $8 for a domain, and most of them ask for free hosting.

My advice would be to ask for the same they are asking for, but accept an offer of $500 or more.

aye seems like you got an ok deal, unless you were willing to develop the site yourself and deal with the headache of potential legal issues along the way, 200-400 bucks is a decent amount to accept the profit and move on.
