Donny, are TQ scores going to be implemented only on US traffic for now?

pasting the parked newsletter in case someone doesnt know what you are talking about:)

Dear Petros,

Last night Yahoo, our primary search provider, announced to all of their advertisers and partners that they would be implementing a "quality based pricing" system starting immediately in the United States and Canada.

"...quality-based pricing is designed to adjust advertiser pricing based on the quality of traffic coming from our distribution network. Traffic is intended to be priced in a manner that is consistent with the quality delivered to advertisers, based on conversion rates and other proprietary factors.

To assist you in better understanding the level of your traffic quality, we plan to provide you with a Traffic Quality (TQ) score for each of your implementations. TQ scores should be included in your partner reports and communicated as a number from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest rating.

By pricing traffic commensurate with quality, we believe that we will deliver higher value to our advertisers, thus strengthening our marketplace and driving up monetization for our partners."

This is how the "quality based pricing" system will work at Parked.com. A person comes to one of your domains parked with us, they search and click out to an advertiser, Yahoo will look to see what your traffic quality score is and let's say you are an 8. The advertiser will be charged whatever an 8 is worth, if the click was originally $1.00, I was told that the click would be at least $0.80 but it could be much higher.

We will provide you with your traffic quality score once we receive it today, the TQ scores are supposed to be updated every 2 weeks. Over the next few weeks as we learn how the TQ scores are calculated we should be able to provide a little better guidance on how to increase your scores. If you feel that your score is too low, we should be able to work with you to see how we can improve your score.

Over the next 10 days Yahoo will continue to make improvements to the new system. We do not have any news on when any other countries will be added to the quality based pricing system. One last thing is that this will affect all parking companies that are using Yahoo, not just Parked.com.

Please don't hesitate to contact your account manager Monte White at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Thanks for your time,

Donny Simonton

TQ Scores seem to be totally arbitrary according to the letter. It's whatever "yahoo" deems... nothing else.

Even LESS transparency.

I'm not sure if I like this idea or not... I guess we'll have to wait and see. It "sounds" like a creative way for Yahoo to snake more of our click rate, nothing more.

They want to gain more control before the advertisers got pissed off and turn the bids down themselves which is a lot worse.
I'm sure this is a pro over the long term.

We are still waiting on the TQ scores ourselves, but the revenue from the US seems about normal.

I have seen some people who got a higher payrate than normal and some that are a little less. But this was the first day.

I think that this is a positive change overall because advertisers are always more willing to spend money when they know that it converts well. It a basic bid is 1.00 and you get .80, that is decent. However, once the advertisers see that that .80 bid is getting them a higher roi, the competition pushed the overall bid to 1.20 and now you get the same 1.00 as before.

Wrong math. 1.2 x 0.8 = 0.96.
On the other hand, if your domains perform well, the rate will increase too.

I'm pretty sure this means people with good generic domains will be rewarded..Internet advertising is all moving towards the eventual cpa model where you are paid only for action/conversion, which means we all turn into affiliates. Imo, this is the first step towards that progression.

I agree to Yahoo strategy. Everything need to be developed or it will disappear one day. PPC need to be turned to CPA , and this is first step.
I only hope the TQ system working fair.

Can we presume that the names that qualify for 1-click landers will tend to have higher scores?

namestrands - Yes, you will get to see your score. Once we get it ourselves. I thought that would be today, but it might not be until tomorrow at the rate Yahoo is going.

RazorNF - I'll say this, based on some tests we had done in the past, 1 click landers sometimes do better and sometimes worse. It also depends on where the traffic is coming from, and about a million other things. I'm sure over the next few weeks everybody will have a better idea of how it works.

About to post final numbers for yesterday, hopefully the TQ scores will be available in a bit.

Some of the numbers weren't matching up, so we have a few emails in to Yahoo right now.
