Trademark gTLD Question

Had a question and wondered if anyone here had knowledge in this area...

Let's say an extension is coming out in a year (we can use .web as an example).

Can you purchase a domain like CrowdfundingWeb.com today, register a trademark for "Crowdfunding Web" phrase, and when .web has Sunrise apply for Crowdfunding.web under the trademark you just made?

Of course. Lots of scams like this going on as we speak.

My understanding of the situation is that registries are not obliged to recognize trademarks that "span the dot".

Uniregistry (Schilling's baby) has voluntarily done the opposite and announced that trademarks that span the dot will qualify for a secondary "Sunrise" period.
