Is there any problems with transfering a domain right after you renew? I read something a few years back that you will lose the year you just renewed for with some registrars. is that (if it ever really was) still the case?

Have never heard that one but some may try to use the 60 day rule on you, check with the outgoing reg.

so i renewed a number of domains (all at different registrars) and the transfered them to moniker but it looks like i lost a year by doing so. i renewed until 2012 at the old register, bought a transfer to moniker which should of added another year but it didn't. who's fault is that and what do i do now?

Godaddy is the only one that won't allow you to transfer out for 60 days after renewal. What you're saying is that you renewed several domains at other registrars and then transferred them to moniker expecting another additional year? It's ICANN policy that a domain name can only be renewed once every 60 days so you would've had to wait 60 days to transfer them out to receive the additional year credit. If you don't mind me asking, what was the point of renewing them before you transferred them? If they were going to expire they can still be transferred.

they were already expired. i had to renew. i wanted to transfer them right away because if i didn't they would probably get forgotten and i'd end up having to renew them at the various registrars (snapnames auction domains) again next year. what a waste of money. i don't see why there is a 60 day waiting period between renewals...what would be the point in that?

What's the point of most ICANN rules? Who knows, but rules are rules I guess
