Does anybody know if Tucows has a preferred drop partner? (y'know, that snapname-style pre-drop drop ...) Any other suggestions to pre-catch at Tucows?

Are you even sure they are even intercepting them in the first place?

Have you observed any names that went to other customers instead of RGP?

I remember last year they were "supposed" to come out with their own private auction system similar to SnapNames but it did'nt go through. At the time before they mentioned this "auction system" their stock was less than 60 cents but after they mentioned it their stock jumped as high as $1.30. Since then, the stock declined back down to 92 cents ... maybe it still in the "works"?

Me thinks "it" has finally been put into play!

Tucows registered a new nameserver--RENEWYOURNAME.NET--on Oct. 16th! It is now being used on over 26,000 names in their system that have not yet been renewed! And not one of these names is showing either HOLD or REDEMPTION status, just REGISTRAR LOCK!?

I'm sure their expired name auction service should be available any decade now.

Yeah, No kidding! It has been a long time since they made the "announcement".

Since the end of 2004 they have announced it at least 3 times... Its 2006 now and still no implementation.

I still use TuCows for all my domains wherever possible and will certainly continue to do so as I know they are probablly the safest registrar out there.

But I'd have to say on any forward looking domain business issue they seem to have their heads buried firmly in the sand.

Total number of Tucow's expired domains using their RENEWYOURNAME.NET nameserver now stands at 65,959!

It appears that DirectNIC.com is also getting ready to play!? They registered EXPIREDDOMAINSERVICES.COM on Dec. 13th and there are now 55,118 expired domains in their system with this new nameserver!

I recently transfered some domains into TuCows without specifying nameservers and they got set to RENEWYOURNAME.NET automatically. These are the DNS servers for TuCows new parking service "beta" as well. This will probablly make it impossible to determine how many names are expired and how many are just parked.

Great news that DirectNIC is finally getting into the game...

The speculation circles around the idea that Tucows was preparing itself to go into the private drop/auction business like GoDaddy's and Enom's. Now it looks like DirectNIC maybe preparing--BY WAREHOUSING DOMAINS?--itself to go the same route!?

The auction site is still "beta". The layout is done in such a way that resellers can use their own style sheets. The you are looking at it the default.

Check OpenSRSAuctions.com (my reseller site) if you want to see something a little better looking.

Better.

The fact that resellers can get in on it is pretty cool.
